Pros

Many CompuCom employees work in a virtual team environment, far removed from direct management and colleagues. This could be a good or bad thing depending upon how you look at it. Personally, I find it to be a good thing as it allows me to work (most of the time) with very little micro managing. I also have more flexibility in my schedule as a result: my manager is not as acutely aware of when I may take a little bit longer lunch or take an early lunch to make a doc appt, etc.

Cons

Number one: cheap, cheap, cheap!!! I've worked in this industry for a long time and in several different environments. Never have I worked for an employer with such Scrooge-like tendencies. I was absolutely shocked to discover what we pay some of our people - as low as $11/hour for a position that requires 3-5 years of good higher-level technical support experience! Some CompuCom managers bring new hires on with a 3 month temp to perm probationary period. At the end of those 3 months, they do not increase the employee's wages after they are hired on full time with CompuCom. Instead, they tell the new employee that the offer of health/dental benefits constitutes a "raise." I also want to add that the team I work with has a very high turnover rate which has resulted in some pretty shabby service to the customer. There's also absolutely no room to grow. CompuCom is contracted to provide specific IT services to its customers and hires people to exactly fill those requirements. Unless the service contracts change, CompuCom employees are locked into an extremely inflexible job description. What's more, if they attempt to work outside of that description at all, CompuCom management will crack down hard on the employee. They really don't want the customer to receive ANY service that they did not pay for. When they do charge extra for special projects, the employee sees no bump in salary unless he/she works OT while the project is ongoing.
