Pros

There aren't many publishing jobs in Ireland, so it might be a good place to gain experience.

Cons

No HR department, workforce lacks diversity, building not accessible, working from home practically non-existent, hardly any benefits offered, no review process (don't expect a raise unless you ask for one), managers don't have staff's best interests at heart -- there is no attention paid to keeping up morale, be prepared to clock in and out, lunch times are inflexible, parameters of the job change informally, deadlines are often unreasonable, goal posts change at the whim of sales and marketing, beating competitors to market is often more important than ensuring quality, and it is an extremely top-down environment. Don't make waves. Don't have ideas. Don't innovate. Don't be creative. Just do things the way it's always been done and the way you're told and you'll do well at this company.

Pros

1. The staff are lovely, everyone is very friendly and approachable. 2. You will learn a lot here, because it's a relatively easy way for new graduates to get into the publishing industry.

Cons

The environment is so top-down it's incredible. You will really be treated as someone who can't offer anything to the company, you will be patronised and have your every move monitored. Your role will be dictated by senior management who are technologically very backward and prefer to prioritse keeping costs low than creating good textbooks. SALARY REVIEW: Salaries are decided at the whim of management with no proper review process or transparency. Bonuses and concessions are given to certain staff with no recourse for discussion. Cost of living salary increase requests by staff yielded no results, which indicates a lack of will to address the constant staff turnover and staffing shortages which afflict this company. As well as this, your job parameters will change, and you will be drafted into departments that were not specified in your role. You will essentially be asked to compensate for incredibly poor leadership throughout your tenure.

Pros

Same-level and immediate colleagues were lovely. Interesting and varied work, lots of good experience gained.

Cons

Practically zero opportunity for growth and career progression unless someone dies or leaves. No actual HR (the "HR" guy is also the CFO who's chums with the CEO and has apparently never mediated or solved any workplace issue ever?? He loves to make comments that would immediately be reported to HR in a proper company). Very willy-nilly with contracts and upholding their terms. No proper review process for salaries and everything seems to be on the whim of one specific person on some level. Probation procedure was delayed by 6 months because ONE PERSON was away on holidays for a few weeks, as if the passage of time came as a surprise to all of them. Upper management are useless and won't lift a finger to actually support their staff. Blatant favouritism shown towards "proper" adults and people with children (actual quote from the CEO: "if you had kids I'd understand, but you don't"). No regard for staff burnout and high turnover is the fault of the people who leave, not an issue within the company that they should look into. Extra work is assigned with no conversation or even a check that you have time, you're just expected to make the time. Staff members can be patronising, incompetent and/or simply terrible at their job and all management will say is "oh well, that's just how X is! So quirky so chaotic 😃". There is constant overstepping of personal boundaries and just a lack of respect for the junior staff. Honestly the only way I'd come back to this company is if all of upper management were gone.
