Not enough support from upper management

Pros

The office is very modern and nice. The people are very supportive and friendly. The location itself is quite strategic.

Cons

Spent my time for about more than week at this law firm. Thankfully I didn't file my papers so hastily. The most significant issue that was the deal breaker for me as a pupil was there was no mentorship from my master at all. While I understand that it is important for us pupils to be left to learn all by ourselves, my master, one of the partners didn't even seem to want to be involved with me. There was no feedback for any task being done and there was no communication initiated by them. Another issue that I had working here was that during my contact with their HR manager before working there, I was told that I would be able to do litigation works subject to a rotation decided by them. When I came in the portfolios of the litigation works were not as diverse and there weren't much of them too and thus, I was told to spend my time only doing one type of work.

Pros

The colleagues are awesome! Supportive and friendly. If it is about colleagues, I will not have left the firm.

Cons

My time at this firm was a mixed bag that left me with some concerns about the overall work environment. While I believe every workplace has its challenges, there were a few aspects of my experience that I found less than ideal. One of the issues that stood out to me was the limited encouragement for professional growth. I noticed a lack of structured support or mentorship programs, making it challenging for employees to develop their skills and advance in their careers. It would be beneficial for the firm to invest more in fostering a growth-oriented culture. Additionally, I observed some communication gaps within the firm that led to confusion about case details and overall strategies. Improved transparency could help employees feel more informed and engaged in their work. Clearer channels for feedback would also contribute to a more open and collaborative atmosphere. The work-life balance at this firm proved to be a bit challenging due to the demanding workload and expectations (you are expected to be on time and to leave the office at midnight - to prove your worth??). While it's common for law firms to have demanding schedules, finding a better balance could enhance employee well-being and job satisfaction. In terms of management style, there seems to be room for improvement in soliciting and addressing employee feedback. Creating a more receptive environment where concerns are openly discussed could contribute to a healthier workplace culture. In fact, Im not sure whether it is legal to operates others company(ies) in one roof. Underpaid and you are expected to chase payment from clients - with no portion. In conclusion, while this firm has its strengths, there are areas where it could enhance the employee experience. Prospective employees may want to carefully consider these aspects before joining the firm, taking into account their own preferences and priorities in a workplace.

Pros

The office decor is refreshing. Partners are generally approachable and most colleagues are easy-going. Adequate amount of work life balance for a law firm

Cons

Management is hay-wired, lack of systematic flow and camaraderie between partners and staffs. Managing Partner has lack of technical knowledge and working level familiarity to the works instructed, thus lacking in empathy and practical knowledge on the issues at hand. Further making knowledge sharing and execution of work challenging. Too much office politics, not proportionate to the number of employees. Staffs are made to perform works outside of jobscope, without proper remunerations and appreciations.
