I worked at BC Hydro full-time

    Pros

Easy job, predictable, lots of decent coworkers, and you can always pass the buck...

    Cons

Pay is below market for some positions and well above for others. Growing number of people who are just there for the golden handcuff (pension, benefits) and don't really care about the job. Hard to get fired to people stick around regardless of skill or effort.

    Advice to Management

Benchmark compensation and don't keep playing the closed shop game. External hires can be great, but you keep restricting the pool to existing contractors and former employees, limiting overall candidate pool quality.

    Pros

Many managers are respectful and supportive. Great benefits for employees particularly if you are full time.

    Cons

The compensation for temporary contingent labour should be increased from 16 CAD to at least 20 CAD in order to meet daily needs here in the Lower Mainland.

    Advice to Management

Manage with humility and share the leadership through genuine collaboration.
