I worked at BC Hydro full-time

    Pros

Many managers are respectful and supportive. Great benefits for employees particularly if you are full time.

    Cons

The compensation for temporary contingent labour should be increased from 16 CAD to at least 20 CAD in order to meet daily needs here in the Lower Mainland.

    Advice to Management

Manage with humility and share the leadership through genuine collaboration.

    Pros

    CEO driving transparency across organization
Great employees (crews, specialists etc) who keep our lights on
    Fantastic safety culture

    Cons

Slow decision making time (muggy procedures)
Very difficult to get rid of unsuitable employees, which leads to bottlenecks and ineffectiveness
A mix of fantastic managers and very poor managers - depending on which team. Lots of politics.

    Advice to Management

Be aware of those that manage up very well only but do not manage down well at all
Be willing to take more risks and expect more out of employees who are underperforming

    Pros

    Work Life balance is 'ok'

    Cons

The HR Department is losing a lot of people and it seems as though it is not being addressed. There is a large lack of leadership in HR at BC Hydro. They don't recognize their employees and they only promote a certain 'type'. They are truly the running joke of the company.

    Advice to Management

    Restructure the HR leadership team
