      Javascript Developer Interview

      Feb 3, 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Yoti (London, England) in Jan 2017

      Interview

The process was a one stage interview at Yoti's offices in West London. The face-to-face interview was conducted by a Solution Architect and a JavaScript Developer. The interview went well and feedback on my technical and cultural fit for the company was very positive but Yoti felt that because I mentioned a salary increase during the interview that I wasn't suitable for the position. The salary range on offer was far in excess of what I currently earn. After some back and forth Yoti offered me the position but at the same salary I'm currently on. I turned the role down as their actions made no sense. If they wanted to hire me then I figured why not at least offer a token pay increase to show me that they were keen to employ me. Their actions felt verging on spiteful and I couldn't see past that to continue with the process.

      Interview questions [3]

      Question 1

My motivations for leaving my current role.
      1 Answer

      Question 2

Questions about the React lifecycle, questions around es6 and then questions centering on algorithmic problems and data structures.
      1 Answer

      Question 3

Towards the end of the interview another member of staff joined the process. He only asked one question. Given five large tech companies (Google, Microsoft, IBM Apple and Tesla) which one would I get rid of (or something to that effect). I was bewildered by this question. I really did not understand how this was a relevant question...even a "Tell me about a time when you had to overcome a problem" type question would have been more constructive.
