      Full Stack Developer Interview

      Jan 3, 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Y Lift (New York, NY) in Dec 2021

      Interview

The interviewers were nice. I was called and asked to come for an in-person technical coding interview which yes is kind of outdated and can be done remotely, especially during covid. Interview questions were easy. After the technical portion of the interview, I was prompted by the interviewer for a salary range I was looking for. I provided my number and waited as they went to go discuss with the CEO. I was brought into the CEO's office to discuss salary, benefits and talk more about the opportunity. The salary number I was provided with was embarrassingly low. The job posting had preferences/requirements of 5+ years experience with certain technologies, however, the compensation is not adequate for the years of experience they're asking for. Overall the compensation is not competitive at all with the cost of living in the NY/NYC area. The benefits were very meh. CEO seemed very insincere and not that genuine, gave me big snake oil salesman vibes. Like another interview review that was posted here, I was also advised that after 6 months to a year I would be eligible for a raise or bonus. Even with the raise/bonus the salary was still really low and it didn't sit right with me. The guy is purposefully withholding money and holding it over a candidate's head. This seems like standard practice for him since he's done this before and will probably continue to do so. In short, the CEO lowballs candidates and dangles the promise of a raise/bonus in the future should they choose to tough it out. That's not a good way to run a business or treat your employees. Lastly, the job posting was very inaccurate. The job was advertised to be a hybrid work schedule. The CEO confirmed that there would be no remote work and it would be strictly 5 days a week in person (so he could micro-manage you). I'm sure the people who work here are nice. The CEO, however, is not. Be advised and be careful, don't get scammed or sell yourself short 👍

Some easy javascript leet-code style questions. Googling and stack overflow was an option provided to me.
