I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Wayfair (Boston, MA) in Feb 2022
Interview
Interview process started out great. Met some cool people and felt like it could be a good fit. After a few video interviews, I was asked to complete a writing assignment that, in my estimation, was about 6 hours of work. I just felt like my years of experience and portfolio of work were discounted when being asked to do work for free.
I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Wayfair in Mar 2022
Interview
Process was lengthy but very structured and streamlined. Video call with recruiter, video call with hiring manager, a test and then a half day's worth of video calls with 4 team members.
Pros: The recruiter always got back to me when she said she would and they gave feedback after the final round when I wasn't chosen, which I really appreciate. They were flexible when scheduling the final interview, as I had to juggle a full-time job as well.
Cons: The copy test was more extensive than I thought it needed to be given it was free labor and an adjacent role to my current one, but I was given ample time to do it.
The only red flag was that there was discrepancy throughout on the role's exact title and responsibilities. I asked a few different team members for clarity and they told me different things as far as title and if the role would have direct reports. For example, when I got the rejection, the note had a title that didn't match what the role had been called throughout the process, and one of the defining factors as to why I was told another candidate was chosen was people management experience....but during the interviews, I couldn't get a straight answer as to whether this role would have direct reports.
It felt like it was a fluid role they were still defining, which is fine, but that makes it hard for candidates to bring their best in the interviews.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Standard behavioral questions, all bucketed to match their core values. They'll give you tips and information on your interviewer ahead of time, which I thought was great.
Received an email about the final round interview for the creative copywriter co-op position (I never did a first round?). Interviewed with two people for an hour and a half.
