I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Upwork (San Francisco, CA) in May 2018
Interview
Typical interview process: phone screen to make sure you can hold an intelligent conversation and are a culture fit, in person meeting with key team members - including with people in the current role-, and final presentation. Nothing too formal.
I have been actively looking for jobs that check of all my "boxes" or requirements, and Upwork checks them all. The entire team, from executives to individual contributors were welcoming, friendly, and went out of their way to ensure that I was comfortable. It was truly a great interview experience and a reflection as to how they treat their employees, and future employees.
I applied online. I interviewed at Upwork (Chicago, IL)
Interview
The recruiter was just plain rude. She set the tone for the entire call by her complete lack of professionalism. She was not even remotely friendly and I could not wait to get off of the call. It does not take much to have a positive tone, especially as a first touch point. Hard pass.
