      Interview

I finished my initial assessment in December of last year. From the very first call about scheduling a phone interview, I have had nothing but professional and friendly people to talk with. The phone interview was thorough and comfortable. She was very conversational and gave me all the information I needed to prepare for the second interview. Within 24 hours I received a call to schedule for the video interview with a panel which included supervisors from the company. The questions were extremely relevant to the position and it made me feel comfortable about the company as a whole. Again, they were very professional and friendly. They were very receptive to my questions and responses and very honest about the position to make sure that it was somewhere I wanted to stay for the long haul. They were also very understanding that I had a severe cold and my voice was basically non existent. Within a few days I had an offer of employment. The background check was very thorough and it was actually fast if you provide the information requested. I'm very excited about starting next month!

      Interview

The recruitment process involved three phases and took about two months from start to finish. The phases of my experience included (1) Application and post-application online assessment (2) 1:1 interview with a recruiter and (3) virtual interview via webcam with hiring managers. I filled out the application and finished the assessments and did not hear anything for about a month and a half, after which time I received an email from a recruiter asking me for times that I would be available for a telephone interview that would require about 45 minutes. The telephone interview was extremely professional and honestly, one of the best interview experiences I have had in my career. The recruiter did a great job of making me feel comfortable and the interview felt like a conversation. We spent time discussing my work experience and the reason for leaving past employment, she made sure I understood the job position and company and then asked me questions related to work ethic etc. At the end of the interview, my recruiter let me know that I would hear back in a few days if I had been passed on to the next phase which would be a video interview. I heard from another recruiter the next day via telephone. We scheduled my video interview and the recruiter also sent me an email with tips for preparing to have a successful interview. She also advised me that I would be participating in a mock role play during the interview. I really appreciated the reference material and upfront information about the interview as it helped me prepare. The video interview lasted about 40 minutes and the interviewers were extremely easy going and friendly. I was very nervous because I really wanted this job and they made me feel at ease. The interview consisted of reinforcing information I had learned during my first interview (company information, position details, schedule) and then we moved on to the behavioral interview questions. The interviewers were really skilled because they mixed questions with conversation so it did not fill like I was being asked question after question. This helped to make the entire interview a very pleasant experience. Once the questions were done, I was then told we would progress to the mock role play. The role play was actually fun. The interviewers provided instructions and then gave me time to prepare by reviewing information about the fictitious hotel. The information you need to walk through the roleplay is all on the screen for you as you progress through the mock call. Once we finished the mock call, the interviewers let me ask any questions I had, and then let me know I would hear back within the week. To my surprise, I received a call about 30 minutes later with a job offer, and I am so happy to start training! Overall, this was one of the most positive interview experiences I have been through. Throughout the entire cycle, each person I met was very friendly, genuine and represents Unum in a positive way. They seemed truly interested in learning about me, which when applying for a work at home job is sometimes lacking from companies. Everyone was willing to help with any questions and it was refreshing to go through an interview process where the recruiter actually calls you to provide you with updates throughout the process as opposed to just sending generic emails (thanks Calle - you rock! ).
