      Unethical company! Micromanagers!

Jun 10, 2018 - Sales, Disabilty Group Insurance

      Pros

Can make good commission, but need to work the minimum expectation of 10 hour days.

      Cons

Cult like sales environment, Terrible management. I was a top rep, but was let go when I told them I was pregnant. So I sued them, and won! Selling Disability Insurance but then when UNUM should be paying valid claims, they make it so difficult for the claimant, to avoid paying anything, which is sad as these claimants became disabled, and are not well. So UNUM preys on that, to try to give up and drop their claim. Unethical claims department. Probably my worst selling experience, ever!

Beware - Burnout, HR, Office Politics

      Sep 22, 2021 - Project Manager
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

The benefits, though they’re nothing special in the Fortune 500 There are some really cool, intelligent people here, and some of the frontline managers are really great bosses, even if their bosses aren’t

      Cons

Lots of nepotism (family and close friends of upper level management or long-time employees are often hired and promoted regardless of their work product or experience) Once they find out you’re good at your job, they will overload you and burn you out, regardless of your position Get everything you negotiate with HR in writing, as they will often backtrack on their promises Office politics can be rough, so be careful choosing your mentors If you’re eligible for bonuses, your bonus will depend heavily on other people’s performance, not just yours They promise a lot of employee development, but often practice favoritism as to who gets “developed” Senior level leaders have committed crimes that would get anyone else fired, but have been allowed to continue their employment

      Pros

Good benefits especially for those with a family, such as flexible hours and good pension scheme and life insurance

      Cons

Low pay and low opportunity for progression, so not a good place to start a career

      Ok

      Sep 18, 2021 - Life Event Specialist
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good pay, PTO, flex hours, they have job specific workflows available for review on the intranet.

      Cons

If you are in benefits- intake/eligibility specialist, disability/life event specialist- it will be impossible to move to a different department. These jobs are not a 'get your foot in the door and move up' type of deal. Super overworked and nothing is done about it. Pay is good, but the mental stress, to me, is not worth it.

      Okay place to work

      Sep 14, 2021 - Anonymous Employee
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good benefits and pay. Great location (both Chattanooga, TN and Portland, ME). The people have been with the company for many years. Therefore, have a lot of knowledge and are willing to work/share with others.

      Cons

Hard to move up in the company (and pay increases were lacking). Recent management changes had a negative impact on employees (lot of layoffs due to re-org)
