(Senior) Director, Customer Support Training Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Toast Inc in Sep 2021

      Interview

Was a really great experience, until it wasn't. Applied and interviewed for a "Director, Customer Support Training" role. First interview was a standard interview conducted by the recruiter, which went well. I was advised of the rest of the process, into which I quickly progressed. The 2nd interviews were virtual, over the course of SEVERAL hours in a row, with 5 different Director+ members of the team. Until that time, the experience was still very good, with constant contact with the recruiter, as well as a 'Candidate Experience Specialist'; I assume the experience was good and they were VERY responsive, only because I was still a viable candidate at that time. Then...suddenly nothing. My standard post-interview thank you went without response, the 2nd follow-up a week later to congratulate the team on their IPO also went ignored. Only after 10 days did I get a response: "We had a lot of moving parts with [Hiring Manager]'s org this past week, and she needed to up-level this role to Senior Director based on the scope of where this team is going." It went on to say I would be a great fit at Director—but indirectly implied NOT at Senior Director. That response was disappointing, but I understood. The email went on to offer "a quick call to discuss feedback or ask questions". Having bookmarked the original post, I did check it and the title had—in fact—been "up-leveled", but everything else was identical. I did respond, declining the call (but wish I hadn't), but asked for any feedback as to how I might become a fit for Senior, if I was already a fit as Director. That was the last contact... ghosts after that. Guess there's no point in communicating if a candidate--is no longer.

Although this was a difficult review to read, I'm grateful for your feedback. What you've described here could not be further from the candidate experience we aim to provide, and I'm disappointed that you did not receive appropriate follow up from the recruiting team. If you're open to it, I'd love to discuss further. Please reach out to me directly on LinkedIn so I can hear more about your experience to ensure we learn from it and do better moving forward. - Jeff Moore, VP of Talent
