      Merchandiser Interview

      Mar 9, 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Scranton, PA
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at The Home Depot (Scranton, PA) in Mar 2018

      Interview

I applied online, it was very generic. Was asked a lot of questions about public health and nutrition programs and how often I used them. No place to attach resume. Was contacted 2 days later via email that I had been selected to move forward in the staffing process and to complete an online screening, which I did. Asked if I was still interested in the job, the hours, etc. I was so the next step was to pick out a date and time for an in-person interview. I chose a date and time and received another email that confirmed my in-person interview. The day before the interview I received 2 separate emails reminding me of my interview date and time. I showed for my interview 10 minutes beforehand and told a gentleman in customer service/special services that I was there for an interview. He said he would make a call. I waited about 5-10 minutes. A gentleman came over to me and introduced himself. He said that he was sorry, but the person who was to conduct the interview was not in the store and can he have my name and contact information, which I supplied to him. He appeared very flustered and nervous. He said something about corporate and store not having the same interview schedule information or something along those lines. He also said that I would receive a call to reschedule. I asked if it would be that day and he said yes. I got back out to my car and felt a bit like I was punched in the stomach. It is now the day after my scheduled interview and I have yet to receive a call to reschedule. I did however receive another email this morning asking me how my interview went. You are kidding me. The worst part of it is that there are actual choices in the questionnaire that you can pick to state why the interview never went on as planned. I chose that interviewer was not there for the interview - it was an actual choice. This obviously means that this happens on a fairly consistent basis. Shame on you, Home Depot, for 1) not having the courtesy to let me know that the interviewer was not going to be there on the date of my interview, 2) not calling or contacting me to reschedule and 3) not allowing me the option to perhaps reschedule in the follow up questionnaire. (After some research, I have seen other reviews where this has happened - do you think that there were cameras on us and when we said that we were there for the interview, they "pre-screened" us based on how we look? I don't know, it's just another thought that ran through my head) Regardless, Home Depot, you wouldn't expect your employees to be rude and inconsiderate to customers and I wouldn't have expected you to be rude and inconsiderate to your (future) employees. I really expected more from you as a company. I withdrew my application and will no longer shop at Home Depot. Very, very, very disappointing. I just wanted others to be aware of the unprofessionalism that exists there. Home Depot, you should be embarrassed, this is a perfect example of how NOT to run a business. I am saddened that this may be the new paradigm when seeking employment.

I interviewed at The Home Depot

      Interview

It was a pretty average interview process where I was asked some personality questions. I was also asked how I handled difficult work situations in the past. The person I interviewed with was very nice. It took a couple weeks before I heard back from them with an offer.
