I initially applied for a Part-Time position. Go to the interview for that position and find out the store has a temporary store manager until they get a new one hired. During the interview for that I was told my resume made me a good candidate for the Store Manager position they had available. I was reluctant and even told this to the store manager I was speaking with. My current job is a M-F, 8-4 position which is perfect for my family, even if it doesn't pay as much.
Well I tell them I wouldn't say no and push me through for the store manager deal. They say ok, and worst case they would bring me on part-time as I had initially applied for. So the day of my SM interview, a recruiter calls me. Right off the bat asks me how my interview with district manager had went so they didn't rehash anything I covered with the DM. Well I hadn't ever spoken to or seen the DM for the store in question. Immediate red flag. They tell me the hours, 50/wk, salaried position, high $50k for salary. Then they ask me if that is ok. I say the finances are not enough to pry me away from my current gig, so they ask how much I'd like. I give them my number and the recruiter gasped on the phone and said well we can't do that, or I don't think we can anyway. My number was $70k, but I also stated I was willing to negotiate. I explained that I knew the store was in rough shape and I'd probably be at the store to start for 60+hrs/wk to which the recruiter even acknowledged that was a very real possibility. The recruiter nearly ended the conversation there, but then said let's do the interview anyway just in case. The rest were standard questions about work history, situational deals, etc.
Well they never got back to me, I had to reach out to them. They said, "My asking salary was not possible." but no negotiation. And now it appears I'm not even going to get the part-time job. It's been a week and no communication on that even though I was told I'd find out last Friday.
