I worked at Staples (More than a year)

    Pros

Worked with nice people in a team environment in a call centre. Product training and a free lunch was about every few months.

    Cons

High pressured sales environment. Monitored constantly and beat up on your missed daily targets. Had to use vacation time to go to a doctor or dentist due the hours of operation of the call centre.

I have been working at Staples part-time

    Pros

    Fairly easy work
Get a discount for new technology

    Cons

They micromanage every sales statistic out there
No commission, why would you care about selling very well when your bonus for an entire quarter is 25$?

    Advice to Management

Less sales pressure, unless you're willing to incentivize.

    I worked at Staples part-time

    Pros

I'm a student and have been since high school. I managed to land a part-time job at Staples years ago. There are things I learned from Staples that I relate to in Business School. I watched Staples transform into a Brick and Motor store into a Brick and Click store. As a part-time employee only there at most 3 days a week, I learned the ins and outs of running a retail store. From communicating with vendors to customers to dealing with RMAs and audits.

    Cons

Some of the management has no idea what they are doing. It is a wonder how they can still run a store.

If you are an outside hire, you will be placed at the bottom of the management totem, and you are to prove yourself to rise.

    Advice to Management

Please start firing the bad ones. If you see a store go from top 3 ASP to the bottom, there is something wrong. If a majority of the staff transfer out or quit alongside these performance drops, there is a problem. If HR has to come in 4 times in 6 months, and never really had to before, there is a

    Pros

Team environment, great benefits & promotions for employees. The ability to self learn about the many technology products offered within the stores & online for better recommendations to the customer

    Cons

Every customer dealt with will be different & learning to tend to their needs can take time but with experience, this can be overcome.

    Advice to Management

Working with the team and taking suggestions into consideration can lead to better results.
