The initial interview was really promising and I was excited about the company. Unfortunately, the technical interview was very poor. It was a pair programming exercise which was focused on getting something to compile. Basically, can you hack something together while people watch you type. No attention to any higher level questions like code structure, readability, documentation, complexity, edge cases, etc. Basically nothing beyond what a junior programmer straight out of school could do. Just nothing to do with the actual job. Who codes stuff with 2 people looking over their shoulder and a ticking timer? Wasted time for all parties.
- Write a file browser given static file/folder data and have it functional in half an hour. For some reason, ignore all best practices. Code components from scratch instead of using one of any number of existing components.

I had an interview with the People and Talent team, followed by an assignment that I then went over with the Marketing Manager. The process went quite smoothly, and while I didn't get the role at the end, I appreciated their responsiveness and feedback throughout the interview process.
- What experience do you have with Customer Marketing?

Unprofessional and disrespectful.. I was recruited by Spare (I did not seek them out) sometime around 2019-2020. The interview process itself was pretty standard for a tech interview: chatting with the co-founders to assess culture fit and some whiteboard problem solving. When they offered me a position, I was excited and replied back asking about the possibility of slight changes to the terms (even my suggested terms were a significant step down in pay for me, which I was willing to take given the startup environment). I was ghosted and never heard from them again. They also ignored my follow-up. I found this to be extremely rude and unprofessional - a short email clarifying that you cannot meet my expectations would not take more than 5 minutes to send. I would imagine that this is reflective of how management handles conflict once you are an employee; I suspect they are looking for people that will buy into the "family" culture without asking questions or rocking the boat. No thanks.
- Working through variations of the travelling salesman problem on a whiteboard.

Step 1: Screen call, very high level what is your background Step 2: Interview with hiring manager. This interview is much more in-depth than typical 1st call with hiring manager. It is a philosophical/culture interview. Step 3: 2nd Interview with hiring manager this time more technical about sales processes. Step 4: Interview with 2 members of the team. Step 5: Interview with the CEO This process is publicly shared on their website as well. No cringe role play. I didn't get an offer after going 5 rounds - I asked for feedback as to why and never heard back.
- Tell me the most complex thing you know in a way that is really simple.

1. Screening Call: super friendly chat and just getting to learn about the company, culture, and product. Had a really good experience/call here. 2. Technical Assessment: 2-3 Leetcode/Hackerrank style questions on their chosen assessment platform. Overall, I struggled a bit at the technical challenge, as I needed more prep and experience. But it was a great and transparent process all together.
- Why do you think you are a good fit here? Why are you making a change from your current job?

applied on spare's website and got an online assessment later, after I passed all test cases 20/20, I was told they decided not to proceed with my application at this time. What a waste of time!

Had HR call, did an online assessment then proceeded to pass multiple rounds of their technical interviews. At the final steps of reference checks, they pulled the position saying their hiring strategy has changed. Really poor management and very inconsiderate for their candidates.
- We are developing an application for bus drivers that tells them where to drive, so that they can pick up and drop off riders that have been matched to them. A primary function of this app is to display a set of "driver instructions" that tells the driver where to drive and who to pick up or drop off over the course of the entire day. Each bus has a limited capacity in terms of the maximum number of riders that can be on board simultaneously. Your task is to write code that takes as input some driver instructions, and tells us whether following those instructions would cause the bus's capacity to be exceeded at any point in the day. *Once you finish this easy question, they ask a follow-up: Now, we learn that some riders are on wheelchairs. Each wheelchair requires two seats to be folded up on the bus when such a rider boards, and when the rider exits the bus those two seats become free again. We know ahead of time which riders will require wheelchairs. However, not every seat on a bus is foldable, and some buses have more foldable seats than others. How would you modify your solution to handle this functionality?

Online assessment involving LC easy/med was the hardest part of the interview. Next was the in person technical. The question was simple, but the purpose here was clearly to test thought process and approach to solving the problem. Last step was a chat with the manager. Anyone who has done 25-50 LC med can probably complete this.
- Talk about a time you took a risk.
