I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at RetailStat in Mar 2025
Interview
The interview process started with an HR call and was followed by a conversation with a technical person (head of the data or something along that line as the title). In about a week, I signed an NDA to not share the data/assignment. I received the assignment with 3 questions with 24 hours given to respond. I was told that I can ask my questions from the technical person through email and was told to send them the codes, outputs, and any reports to them through email. I developed the scripts in Python (although the assignment did not come with any clear instruction about the programming language). Due to some filtering process on their end, I could not email them the zip file so I ended up sharing the files on google drive with a link. I did send them an email to ask about the way to share and how to proceed regarding the email blocking the attachment but they did not respond. About a few days later, I received a response from the HR person that they received my submission and they will be in touch for the next steps. Although I was told by the technical person that I will have a follow up meeting to discuss my answers, I never did and a day later I received a boiler-plate format email from the HR person that they did not move forward with my application. I did not receive any feedback or comment on my submission.
The general HR and the communication with me throughout the interview process were fine. However, I personally did not enjoy my conversation with the technical person (I believe his name was Alex). Seemed kinda cocky, too confident, and not pleasant to talk to.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
one question was focused on geospatial data analysis by combining them with Census data. Another one was more of a business-oriented question and that came with a dataset but did not require coding. And another question was related to implementing joins and using Spark for large datasets.
