Interviews at REDspace

I interviewed at REDspace
Wonderful experience with the interview process. While I didnt have the experience to advance to the second stage, the "coding interview" portion was a take home project. Wonderful for anxious folks like me!
- Primarily explanations of MVVM architecture and the pros/cons of it!

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at REDspace (Halifax, NS) in Feb 2022
The interview process is as follows and ill include my review and thoughts here; 1. First round was a team lead screening you and just getting to know you, no HR. was about 30 mins long and pretty easy. They emailed me a take-home assessment. They changed the date for this a week later than initially planned at the LAST minute. Again, a red flag is very unprofessional but as other reviews have pointed out here this is a norm in this company. 2. Take-Home Assessment; you make a full-stack application using Node.js/Express and a React JS frontend. The task is to talk to the star wars API and render the characters' information (info, home-planet, etc.). The goal is to make one call to Star Wars API (SWAPI). EVEN DID BONUS WORK AND HOSTED IT. they give you five days to complete it. things I noted: - for a React.js posting this assessment was really over the top. Luckily, I have back-end experience which helped me a lot. Again not mentioned in the job posting that this was a requirement. A red flag again but I continued, maybe they will choose me over other canidates. - This assessment wasn't challenging for my React skills at all, more so for back-end data manipulation and API calls. 3. Third round you meet up with 2 web dev leads and an HR person. Where surprisingly they didn't ask a lot of questions on my assessment. Jus gave positive feedback and the rest of the questions were very cliche fundamental questions on React, HTML, and not a lot of CSS. The third round is where it went a little weird for me; - great feedback is given on my assessment yet no acknowledgment of what are some positives vs negatives. Also no deeper questions about assessment. it's like yay you completed our unnecessarily challenging assessment. Again no acknowledgment other than; "good job on the assessment". - I still do not understand why I made a full-stack web app for a front-end role. Maybe they messed up their assessment handouts, either way, I completed it. - interviewers ask very generally surface-level questions anyone with a basic understanding could answer. Not a lot of React questions at all. Rejected and reasoning was as follows: "We are looking for more senior positions and would consider you for upcoming junior positions" THOUGHTS/REVIEWS: --- RedSpace leads you on from the very beginning and instead of being honest, will lie to you, give you false hopes and keep pumping into the next rounds even if you complete their assessments which were NOT related to the job posting. -- The only reason I'm giving 1 star is that I was never told why I wouldn't be a good candidate and instead of being honest about their expectations, will reject you without a proper reason. If I applied to know I tick all the boxes then for what reason am I being rejected? If another candidate was chosen I would appreciate the honesty and would understand better. -- Also, such a waste of my time with interviews dates getting pushed back, unrelated assessments, and a mediocre interview process. -- Clearly, this company doesn't value your time enough and in hindsight, it is probably best I didn't get this job. -- The interview process felt like it was for a junior dev role but I'm rejected because they want a "more senior"?
- What is useEffect hook? what is semantic HTML? how do you make websites accessible? General culture fit, can you work collaboratively, etc?

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at REDspace in February 2022. The interview was online. The first step was screening with the Director of Mobile Engineering. It was a mix of behavior and technical questions. After a week on Friday, I got an email with the coding assignment. I completed it within the weekend and after that, I got an email for a panel interview. It was a 1.30-hour long session with Director, iOS Lead, and hiring manager. There were 3 steps. First, they ask me general iOS-related questions. The second step was to go through the code and then a live coding session in which I have to implement a small feature. The third step was again a technical question related to my assignment as well as related to iOS Stack. On Tuesday I had this last panel interview and on Friday I got an offer.
- - Race condition - why use the final keyword - Dispatch methods - Weak/unowned self - escaping - Coding review guidelines - Rx pros and cons

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at REDspace in Jan 2022
There were three stages in total. In the first stage, I had a 45-minute video call with a Senior iOS Developer to discuss some Swift concepts. Once I passed the first stage, I was asked to complete an iOS Code Challenge. I had three days to finish it. It was actually enjoyable to do. About a week after completion, I was asked to do panel interview with the hiring committee. It was a slightly difficult interview and I was turned down at first, but they may have liked some qualities in me and reached out to me two months later with a junior position, which I accepted.
- I decline to share details but I was asked same questions in all of other job interviews.

Long coffee chat with an employee (1h) A few days later received a task to do at home. I didn't qualify for the next step - another interview, behavioral and technical. The technical part was supposed to be not about the task they gave me home.
- Create an app with APIs

First, I had a screening call and then in the second round they sent me an Angular coding challenge. After submitting that they didn't get back to me for 21 days. They apologized so I was ok with that. Then they said that that they liked my code and want to set up a panel interview and asked for my availability. After we agreed on a date and the interview was set up, they emailed me a day before saying their needs have changed and they need a senior developer and that they are cancelling my interview. That was very unprofessional. My friend who also interviewed there said that same thing happened with him too. This is very unprofessional of REDspace.
- They cancelled the panel interview at the last moment and the screening call had typical screening call questions.

it was a 2-step interview: with a head of department and with the HR. Both interviews were conducted in a professional and welcoming manner. I was left with the impression it was a good company to work at. Despite I was not offered the position at RedSpace, I would recommend to investigate and consider this company as a potential employer. My recommendation would get prepared to your interview, especially to the part of your engagement and participation in the team work.
- Examples are: - what made you proud about a certain work accomplished before - ability to be a team player - your knowledge about the company

I applied through the careers page. I had my screening call with HR after which I was scheduled to technical interview with a senior dev to discuss my past experience. I cleared this round as well. After this, they gave me a react coding challenge. I took a day off from my job and attempted all the points that they mentioned in the exercise. I waited 5 days but they never replied about my submission. If you don't like what you see RedSpace, let the candidate know. I bet nobody checked the code and they hired someone else before me.
- React coding challenge using the star wars api data.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at REDspace in Jun 2021
I applied via a recruiter who found me on LinkedIn, though I knew about the company beforehand. There was a recruiter screener call, followed by a video technical interview, a coding challenge, followed by another video technical interview. The process was pretty smooth and took no longer than 2 or 3 weeks.
- I'm not going to share questions, but the technical round was like most other iOS developer interviews, so no huge surprises.
