      Technical Writer Interview

      Jul 23, 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Houston, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at Quest Global (Houston, TX) in Jul 2018

      Interview

The HR contacted me having seen my resume on a job site, at first I didn't even care to look at the job because I have a bachelor's and masters in mechanical engineering, but then i thought let me just go to the interview and see what the position is about, even though I read the reviews prior to going. I was interviewed at Baker Hughes. I wanted to start by saying, I am temporarily disabled and walk with a cane. The manager I was supposed to interview with wasn't ready, so one of the employees came to the receptionist to get me, he started with a smile but when he looked down at my cane his smile turned into a frown. Because of his lack of a poker face I already knew at that moment I didn't want to work for Quest Global. So he took me to the office where the interview was to be conducted, and he interviewed me alongside another employee. They asked me questions about some technical writing I did, and showed me the software that they use and asked me to reproduce the same spreadsheet having only looked at this software for 2 minutes also I had to wait for a while after that. Honestly I feel like they were doing this to stall for the manager . After about an hour of waiting, the manager finally was free, he told me that the other employees wouldn't have time to teach me how to use the software and that he doesn't know if I would have the physical capabilities to travel and move fast if needed. 1) That's AGAINST US LAW, you can't discriminate against someone because of race, gender, sexual orientation, or disability, temporary or otherwise. 2) The job description does not include anything that says there are physical requirements for a technical writer. If I had recorded the manager I could of sued him and the company and I would've been set for life. After the interview was over he asked me what had happened to me. Overall , all except for one female employee, was very unprofessional and very rude. I would not recommend even giving this company a chance. Don't waste your time, or if you want to go make sure you record your interview, maybe you can get some money if they discriminate against you.
