Review:
My experience with Prosper was a rollercoaster of emotions and uncertainty. Three months after initially interviewing with the company and being told I was the second choice, I received an unexpected email from the CEO expressing interest in revisiting my application. Excited by the opportunity, I engaged in a video call with the CEO, where he assured me of their interest and set up future meetings with key team members.
However, the promising start quickly unraveled. Despite being assured of moving forward in the process, I was blindsided by a sudden reversal of decision. An email follow-up to confirm scheduling and express continued interest was met with the surprising response that I was not a “good fit” and they were seeking a “unicorn” candidate.
The lack of consistency and transparency in their communication left me baffled and frustrated. While I understand that hiring decisions can evolve, the sudden about-face without clear reasoning or alignment with previous discussions is concerning.
I urge potential candidates to approach the hiring process with caution and to seek clarity at every stage. While the role itself may hold promise, the unpredictability and apparent disconnect within the hiring team raise red flags that shouldn’t be overlooked.
Furthermore, reflecting on this experience, I can’t help but feel that perhaps I dodged a bullet. Giving up a current job with at least some level of job security for such an uncertain and seemingly disorganized opportunity would have been a risk not worth taking.
