The interview process took a month and a half, start to finish.
I was contacted by an internal recruiter to set up the interview process. First I met with two key members of the team, then a week later the recruiter informed me that they wanted to meet a second time to ask more questions. Next, they had me speak with a member on the technical team who didn't show for our scheduled call and had to reschedule for another day. Finally, a fourth team member met to talk to me (despite not being on the original interview loop).
I received an offer and told the recruiter that I was thrilled to receive it, but for transparency's sake, that I also had another offer elsewhere and needed some time to think on it — and this is where things really went wrong.
I thanked him for his patience and said that I'd let him know as soon as I had more information. I reaffirmed that I was still interested in Nuance, but needed to deeply consider my options. His response was curt as he tried to guilt me over text message that he told the team what I said (and that they were "furious"). He followed up by saying it would be a hugely missed opportunity if I didn't accept, and somehow that I was "already a valued member of the team."
I maintained professionalism and responded that I'd hate to disappoint the team, but that I needed to continue thinking on it. The next morning I received a text message that asked if I had made a decision and ended with "we're okay either way."
The recruiter's behavior felt very manipulative and was honestly a consideration when I declined the offer. Despite the long process, the members of the team I interviewed for were lovely people.
The poor overall experience is based on the length of time the interview process took, the disorganization of the team itself, and this particular recruiter.
