I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Nordstrom (Cincinnati, OH) in Apr 2012
Interview
The hiring process is rather standard. Application available online takes about an hour with questionnaires. Later that day I was e-mailed about setting up a phone interview the following day. The phone interview was with the hr manager at the location that i had applied. she asked rather generic questions about my current and past employer and then asked me why i wanted to work for Nordstrom. She set up a face to face interview for the following week. i interviewed with 2 department managers ( hr had told me of another opening in a different department then i had applied in) That day i was called by one of the dept managers and asked to come back for a final interview with both assistant and manager of the dept. 2 days after that. During the second interview i walked the sales floor, interacted with employees and merchandise while being told about the job in a lot more depth (commission sales %, base pay, hours ect.)
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The department manger asked me to sell her a bracelet during the interview as a "demo". I was unfamiliar with the item, but just talked based on assumptions i made by looking at it. She loved that!
So easy, I went to a job fair and was hired on the spot. They need people in the kids department, that's the easiest section to get into. They just ask about your personality and who you are.
Was inside Barton creek mall, hiring manager was prompt and clear with questions ranging from how I would handle difficult customers, to my personal experiences that could apply to the job.
