Applied online at company site and received email invitation to a phone interview with HR within 24 hours. Phone interview consisted of 5 questions-availability, describe a bad customer situation, describe your experience in commission sales..really basic stuff. Make sure you prepare so you don't find yourself saying "umm..." or "uhh.." as you think of an answer! Recruiter said she would pass resume on to Department Manager and 2 days later he called to schedule interview.
Interview was 60 minutes and there were no big surprises; all questions were related to customer service and sales history. Make sure you stress how you're interested in building relationships with your clients; this is what Nordstrom stands for! Interviewer read questions directly from what I assume to be the Nordstrom interview guide, and took detailed notes on my responses. The last 10 minutes were spent detailing how the commission system works at Nordstrom.
We then took part in a sales exercise on the sales floor, where he picked out a shirt and I had to sell it to him. I asked him what type of occasion he was buying the outfit for (he said business casual), so I then walked walked him deeper into the department and showed him a vest or tie that would match. He LOVED that suggestion, but I hit a homerun by asking if he was using his Nordstrom Notes to pay for the items which led to a sales opportunity to the Nordstrom Card. He offered me the job on the spot!
