      Software Engineer II (SRE) Interview

      Aug 4, 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Hyderābād
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at Microsoft (Hyderābād) in Aug 2020

      Interview

An external recruiter, to which Microsoft seem to have offloaded all recruitment work approached me with the SRE role opportunity. I showed disinterest as I'm a backend developer looking for backend role. He insisted that I should try as the role is backend centric and not to be misled by the title. I agreed to take it up. Within a week I got a call informing about the interview to be scheduled in next 3-4 days. Dates are not changeable. No other way but to go ahead with it. I had 2 round over the "Microsoft teams". I was asked to keep my video and screen sharing on (to ensure that I'm not cheating) whereas the panels didn't have their video on. I was specifically asked to share the whole screen and not just one window. Contrary to what recruiter made me believe, both the rounds were SRE centric Trivia and to most of the questions I kept responding that I didn't have enough knowledge on those topics. Interviews ended soon enough after some basic programming questions. Overall experience: 1. The recruiter's info was misleading. Representing Microsoft it'd be the poorest professionals I've come across. 2. One of the panel on the call itself informed me that I'd be better suited for Backend role than SRE. When I said I was hoping for it to Backend centric role, the panel said he'll inform about this to the recruiter. Generally it's not wise to communicate the feedback by the panel. The panels were not trained for interview process. 3. Both the panels as mentioned in another Glassdoor post: were at the same level they were hiring for. Which creates prejudice. Most of the time panels overlapped and cut me off while I was speaking. Picked one word from my response and asked next questions without even letting me finish. e.g: Q. How does redis Ensure persistence? A. Data is kept in-primary memory but it allows snapshots to be taken at... Q. What is a snapshot?
