      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Metrix (Canada)

      Interview

      1. Phone screen with HR - HR person was the best part of this experience. They were professional, timely, and responsive 2. Take home, 2 part creative assignment (article and powerpoint presentation) - in my opinion, this assignment is too big of a time investment to ask of candidates. It's creative so it's somewhat open ended and can be a huge time suck and opportunity to overthink. The criteria you are measured on are briefly stated but then your work is not assessed - you get no feedback. And to top it off, during the panel interview the assignment is not talked about at all. 3. Panel interview - Behavioural question after behavioural question. Many were so hyper specific (ex. Describe the way you manage your references list when editing a manuscript) that they felt like a waste of precious time, and I did not get a chance to highlight my most relevant skills and projects. - For lack of a better term, the "vibes" during the panel interview were bad. 2 out of 3 interviewers were cold, one seemed downright uninterested from start to finish. Questions were weird and difficult to answer in a way that actually highlights relevant skills. The job I applied and interviewed for has been reposted several times over the span of several months. In this city, there is no excuse for a job like that to be open for so long. Hiring manager(s) clearly have unrealistic expectations or don't know what they want and keep blindly looking.
