I applied online. I interviewed at MarcomCentral (Los Angeles, CA) in Jan 2019
Interview
Can you describe a successful marketing campaign you have managed from start to finish? How do you stay current with the latest marketing trends and technologies? Can you walk us through your process for identifying target audiences and developing a marketing plan for reaching them? Can you give an example of how you have used data and analytics to drive marketing decisions and measure campaign success? Can you discuss a time when you had to pivot your marketing strategy due to unexpected circumstances and how you approached the situation?
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at MarcomCentral (Solana Beach, CA) in Feb 2018
Interview
Standard process -- phone interview with HR, followed by Technical interview over the phone and face-to-face interview after that.
For theface-to-face interview, I was supposed to meet with the CTO and the hiring manager but the CTO was not available so they pulled in another software person at the last minute.
Prior to the interview the recruiter said they were interested in automating using standard tools and customizing them. When I spoke of how I did this at my current job using several opensource tools, the hiring manager asked many questions about why I chose a particular opensource tool and how I customized it.
The feedback later from the recruiter was that the hiring manager wanted me to describe how I would write my own custom in-house piece of software instead of using packages as that is what he wanted. If that is what he wanted he could have asked directly about my experience doing that in other jobs.
He also wanted about a 90% or greater match of experience with the job description. That is very rare and almost impossible.
Then I heard nothing back other than they were interviewing other candidates. Now almost a month later, I have an offer from a different company that moved faster.
The MarcomCentral job sounded like it would be a great opportunity but moving so slowly turned me towards an equally exciting offer.
