Mission: Clio's mission is to transform the practice of law, for good.

Clio – Why Work For Us?

Clio was launched in 2008 by lifelong friends Jack Newton and Rian Gauvreau with the goal of delivering a cloud-based practice management technology that transforms the practice of law, for good.

Today, they are joined by hundreds more who share that vision. Clio has grown to over 250 employees in four global offices, and serves over 150,000 customers in 90 countries.

Clio has successfully grown from 2 to over 250 employees by investing in our people and product, in that order. To achieve our mission of transforming the practice of law, for good, we rely on our both human and high performing culture.

Clio was named one of Canada’s Best Managed companies in 2018, and selected by Waterstone Human Capital as having one of Canada’s 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures of 2016. Our employees have a founder’s mindset, which drives them to take responsibility for the company’s success, push boundaries, discover new solutions, and forge their own career path.

To better understand how we think, consider our values below. Our values were created collaboratively by a cross-functional team of Clio employees, and are are part of every decision we make, every day.

CLIO VALUES

Customer Success Comes First

We know our customers and know and our product. No exceptions.

We build amazing products that make our customers happy and successful.

We earn the love and trust of our customers and never take them for granted.

We’re humbly Canadian—but we’re also damn proud of it.

Play to Win

We think and act like founders.

We raise the bar—our success is the product of effort and excellence.

We celebrate our wins and learn from our losses.

We do not view quality and velocity as opposing ideals.

Thrive as #TeamClio

We win together and lose together as a team.

We put the needs of the team before our own. No egos.

We respect each other and the Company and strive to always do the right thing.

We balance what we give with what we take.

Draw the F***ing Owl

We are aligned with common goals and empowered to make things happen.

We seek solutions when we find problems. Wherever we find them.

We ask questions when we don’t have answers.

We go above and beyond. Always.

Live a Learning Mindset

We are curious and always striving to improve ourselves.

We aren’t afraid to fail.

We give each other real-time, honest, and actionable feedback, and likewise, we’re open to receiving feedback in order to grow.

No Doors; Only Windows

We’re open and accessible.

We’re free to be ourselves and to be genuine with each other. Clio’s culture is enriched through diversity.

We’re encouraged to say what’s on our mind and ask questions. Good, bad or ugly.

We communicate openly, broadly and frequently.

Work Hard, Be Agile

We love deadlines. We live deadlines.

We don’t punch clocks. We’re measured by the contributions we make.

We support each other to get things done faster and more efficiently.

We do not view quality and velocity as opposing ideals.

We embrace change - and we’re not afraid of it.

Stay Fit, Have Fun

We nurture our physical and mental health.

We laugh. A lot.

We always strive to be present, mindful and in the moment.

We have a fun and enthusiastic work environment.

We're all here to do meaningful work and transform the centuries-old industry of law—and transform our careers at the same time.

Our leadership comes from Salesforce, Amazon, the ACTIVE Network, Zynga, and more, and they believe in mentorship and sharing their expertise. You’ll never hear “that’s not your job” here. Instead, you’ll be encouraged to explore and build a meaningful career that works for you.

We believe in learning at all levels. From company-wide lunch and learns to opportunities to speak at and attend industry-leading conferences, you’ll find many ways to refine and expand your skill set.

We’ll invest in your learning and development through innovative leadership development programming, an internal coaching program, and tuition and book reimbursements.

We provide an RRSP matching program, a highly competitive parental leave program, and an RESP contribution program to help you plan for you and your little ones’ future.

We believe in benefits that take care of the whole person. We have weekly onsite yoga, bootcamp, acupuncture, naturopath, and RMT massage. We provide healthy snacks (and unhealthy ones) when you need to refuel. In our Burnaby HQ, we have a yoga room, a zen room, an on-site gym (membership costs are on us) and a bunch of puppies when you need to unwind (that’s right—we’re dog friendly).

As part of our initiative to ensure that all employees have access to proactive and preventative mental health resources, our Clio Cares program offers a unique complement to our extended health benefits and robust Employee Assistance Program. Clio Cares provides an additional $2,000 to spend per year on Clinical Counsellors, Registered Psychologists, or Licensed Social Workers, over and above the coverage provided for paramedical providers. We’re proud to offer this benefit for all employees, regardless of level or role or tenure.

I have been working at Clio full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Clio is that mystical workplace that you hear about, but don't believe really exists until you make the journey out to Burnaby. (I for one, was sure all these Glassdoor reviews were somehow written by the CEO himself).

    Exciting, varied work? Check.
    Managers that care? Check.
Smart colleagues that challenge you to level up your game? Check.
    Approachable, empathic senior leadership? Check.
Support for diverse career growth opportunities? Check.
Extensive programs to invest in their people? Check.

I feel like Clio is the Vancouver tech scene's best kept secret (maybe because it's in Burnaby).

    Cons

    It's in Burnaby.

Obligatory 'pay us more' comment (it does feel like market rate, but hey, I'll take more!)

    Vice President of Marketing Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Vancouver, BC
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied through other source. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Clio (Vancouver, BC) in May-2016.

    Interview

I was contacted by one of their people from HR for the VP of Marketing role on LinkedIn. Spoke with him on the phone and got an interview with the CEO, Had the interview with CEO and followed up a couple of times but never heard back from him or the HR person. I have to say with more than 15 years experience in hiring that this seemed like they had no clue in how to hire for the role. Advice to HR is always get back to your candidates either letting them know they didn't go through etc. especially after 1:1 in person interview. Giving silence is just not the right way of doing things. I am not surprised this position is still up.
