      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at KidsLoop in Jul 2021

      Interview

A waste of time. I had already spent a weekend completing a complex coding assignment. I got exactly the right answer, turned out impeccable code with lots of good unit tests. The interview was at 8.20 in the morning on webcam. The interviewer was wearing a mask; he seemed unfriendly right from the beginning, straight down to business with no pleasantries. The interview was just banal stuff. Where have you worked, what language do you use etc. The feedback was that I'm smart and good with complex coding tasks but there were concerns that I can't collaborate. Okay, why? I have had no trouble collaborating before. I keep my ego in check; I'm known for being a nice, friendly person. So I certainly wasn't pleased to have to go through that dance only to be told basically that the interviewer doesn't like my face or has some kind of prejudice which leads him to assume I can't "collaborate".

      Interview

Had a preliminary chat with their recruiter. Then was sent a weird, very specific coding challenge - I was meant to write a code to calculate some number (imagine a question like "how many different positions on a chess board can a knight get to in X moves?") Didn't have a lot of time to spend on it. I coded something, had basic tests etc., and sent it in. Got a reply from the recruiter saying that the number I submitted wasn't "quite right", and if I wanted to try again. No thank you, I already gave you enough free work. And who the hell cares if the number is correct or not? Aren't you evaluating me based on my work process? Was told that the engineering manager "agreed" to have a look at it (thank you very much, what an honour!) And was promptly ghosted. Good riddance. My only regret is that I didn't read the other reviews on here, and saved myself 2 hours.
