      Living Rooms Sales Associate Interview

      Dec 30, 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Jacksonville, FL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at IKEA (Jacksonville, FL) in Dec 2023

      Interview

Terrible. I was definitely the ideal candidate. I have many years of experience. A deeply personal passion for their product. I even had pictures at the ready of my own Ikea decorated living room. I am very agreeable and nice, and also have leadership qualities under my belt. I have a better job at the moment honestly than this one but I’m looking for a job that will make me happy. I’m an avid customer, I do not feel like the staff at this location are great besides the individuals at the delivery counter and a nice guy in the living rooms section. They have been rude, they ignore you, etc. This hurts me to even say because I love Ikea so much. The interview questions are value based questions which sounds like a good thing but actually this means you are going to respond to 10 paragraph long questions and somehow concisely answer them on the spot. And they are all the same pretty much. It’s a kind of personality test I’d rather take on my own before doing the interview, like other jobs do. I really did not like the framing of the questions, I get that this is a very “progressive” company, but it was way over the top and I felt like the interviewer was kind of insulting me or felt I was stupid. And it was redundant. She was not very clear or articulated, had a bit of an attitude, and acted extremely disinterested the moment she stepped in the room. She also immediately made me uncomfortable about the seat I chose to sit in during the interview. She said she usually sits in the seat I had sat in and I offered to move and she judgily said no and immediately I knew she was probably not going to be a good person to work under, she would have been my boss. While it hurt my feelings to be turned down in the end, I’m grateful I won’t have to work with such a weird, disrespectful, out of touch person who clearly needs to not be a boss. I asked if they were short staffed and she confirmed she had a lot of people leave. I immediately knew why. Definitely a crowd I’m happy to avoid. I really really hope the interviewer reads this! I really hope to take her attitude down a peg because never in my whole life have I been treated so weirdly in a professional setting. If I was a higher up, I’d seriously evaluate her role. Don’t waste your time unless you are a brainwashed submissive liberal or a highly motivated cutthroat corporate minded individual. They don’t want nice genuine hardworking people I guess, from what I’ve heard. I’m gonna try my best to let this slide and continue being a customer to Ikea because they really are great but this experience may have ruined it for me, I am not sure. The job listing is back up, so rather than hiring me they are looking for other candidates. And this is not a normal kind of review for me! I have a lot of grace and understanding for people. And it hurts me to talk about Ikea this way! I feel bad for even writing it.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Ikea prides itself on its commitment to adapt to change in these difficult times and its ability to foster growth of its employees. Give a specific example of a time that you and your team came together to develop a solution to a conflict and how you benefitted as a team from the solution at work.
