I applied online. I interviewed at Hollstadt Consulting
Interview
The experience did not meet expectations. After applying, I received a call that initially suggested genuine interest and the scheduling of an interview. However, the interaction turned out to be an automated AI screening, which was unexpected and occurred at a time and location unsuitable for an interview. Considering this organization recruits on behalf of other companies, I would have expected engagement with a living representative. Ultimately, my application was unsuccessful, which seemed likely given the improvised nature of the process. The overall approach lacked professionalism. It was very unnatural and weird.

Question 1
General questions regarding the role and my experience.
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Hollstadt Consulting in Jun 2025
Interview
Applied via their career page and shortly after received a text message from an AI Bot that introduced themselves with a human first name. It was confusing as I was uncertain if it would continue as text or lead to a phone call based on the phrasing.
It asked me to confirm what state I resided in and once I replied, it said they would be unable to proceed with the process as they do not do business in the state I live in...
This is for a "Remote" position, with no requirements/restrictions on location mentioned in the job description. The hiring team needs to update their job descriptions to explicitly call this out, as applying to this role felt like a waste of time. If this bot is a screening tool, could it not screen my resume or LinkedIn and send me an auto reject rather than open a fake dialogue?
The bot asked me to rate my experience, but I broke the character count. Probably not worth giving feedback at all.

Question 1
Can you confirm what state you currently reside in?
I got a phone call that routed me straight to an AI‑powered interview. The system asked focused questions about my testing approach, the tools I use, and how my past projects prepared me for the role. I was pretty nervous—speaking to an AI felt strange—so I rushed through a few answers to make sure I finished within the time limits.
