Mobile Engineer - Zing (Android) Interview

      Apr 23, 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at HSBC (London, England) in Apr 2024

      Interview

      1. 30 minutes with Tech Recruiter 2. 1 hour technical round with 3 Mobile Developers Interviewers were very ill mannered and lacks judgemental skills, i believe HSBC gave the interview task to a bunch of mid level developers who has no idea how to interview candidates They asked a question about LiveData and compose, it don't go with each other, it's Actually not a recommended approach in Android, interviewer doesn't even know what they were asking, they should learn how to ask correct questions Android has thousands of APIs, developer cannot know all APIs in tip of fingerprint just because it is being implemented in Zing App and rejecting based on that shows poor decision making skills from interviewers Interviewers should check for candidates ability to learn, adapt new tech which was missing. They still havent transitioned to jetpack compose and using jetpack components, pathetic state of affairs, no wonder such poor interviewing experience.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Why cant we use LiveData instead of State in jetpack compose Why do we even need State, cant we pass LiveData directly? How Fragment Navigation works, pass data between different fragments Dark/Light mode questions -does screens refresh again? Use case inside another usecase approach for retriveing different values from different repositories Deeplink and why do we need to open Home to open another TAB or fragment from DeeplinkHandler, what happens if i go back, will home show up? Live Data vs Viewmodel MVVM architecture, why do we need it, what is Usecase, why do we need it What is Domain layer, what does it have in Android, why its used What is repository pattern various Android Components Using which component can we open another application? Other Non-tech Related: Bi weekly sharing do you have? Android Release process -> QA, release to playstore, rollout etc Android Branching process - develop, master, feature branch, release branch etc What do you want to become -> Lead or Em or coder? What makes a good lead, whats job of lead?
