      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Fidelity Investments

      Interview

The interview process started with a phone screening by a recruiter followed by three interviews, 30 minutes each. All three of the interviews were very similar in nature within various level of corporate hierarchy. The first interview was with three people: two directors and a principal engineer. The second interview was higher up on the food chain including a VP and two directors at corporate. The third interview was with a VP and director, both located at the location which I would have been working. The eight people I interviewed with were very pleasant people to talk to, and sounded very passionate about their work. Sometimes I struggle with interviews because questions come up which I have no answer for. I am very much a non-confrontational person, so when questions like, "Describe a time you had an argument with a co-working and how it was resolved?" come up, I really have nothing for them. Fortunately there was nothing like this. Most questions are about your experience, goals and why you are specifically interested in the position you applied for. The one negative part of the experience was that I am not sure that the company really knew what they were looking for. Given the job description I think I would have done well, but two of the interview questions made it sound like what they really needed was a Senior Software Engineer that had experience in working with APIs. Unfortunately when you are unfamiliar with how something works, it is difficult to know what the solution is. I am sure they will learn and grow together to figure it out. Overall I had a positive experience learning about Fidelity and perhaps one day we will meet again in the future.
