      Area Manager Interview

      Apr 24, 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Expedia Group (Austin, TX)

      Interview

Unorganized and unprofessional from the start. The link to even apply for the role was broken and I only had the opportunity to submit by resume by reaching out to various hiring managers who finally admitted the error and gave me an internal link. The first major red flag was my intake call with the recruiter who despite the JD specifically saying "The total cash range for this position in Austin is $134,500.00 to $188,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $215,000.00" tried to tell me the absolute max would be $125,000/yr with potential for a nominal bonus. There was no explanation for the mismatch and my only conclusion was that this was deliberately misleading both on LinkedIn and internal job descriptions. Things didn't exactly get better in the interview which was panel style and consisted of rapid-fire questions which seemed to be geared towards interrogation more than actually learning about me and creating a conversation around the role itself. I will say that the director did seem to grasp how these interviews should go and I wish the call was just with him because we were briefly able to escape the firing squad and have an intelligent conversation about opportunity in the VRBO landscape. Unfortunately there was another in the group who seemed bent on disqualifying me and was introduced as a peer (not great) if I were to get the role. I left feeling like I did well fielding their interrogation but at the same time highly discouraged if this experience was representative of who i'd be working with or the company as a whole. Based on the reviews and my research i'm inclined to believe this was just a bad experience with one or two people who were probably having a bad day. After my interview I was honestly dreading a (lowball) offer because the discussion left such an unsettling feeling. Two days later I was rejected, and i'm just fine with that.

What are three ways VRBO can grow revenue over the next year?
