Informal video conference. Was not sure who the hiring manager was. No formal salary or benefit negotiation process. The company provided a visa and airfare, which was appreciated. All hiring documents were in Japanese, but was able to translate digital copies myself.

Are you willing to familiarize yourself with Japanese business customs?
Skype Interview because was not currently in the country. Was helpful I didn't need to travel to Japan to have the interview. After the initial interview, had a second interview with management. The offer was then emailed to me.

I had a couple of Skype interviews with the team I was interviewing for. My Japanese was tested a little. The interviewing process might have changed as it was a little informal at the time I applied.

Basically they want to know you can handle going to another country and not go crazy due to culture shock as one of the important parts of the interview if you are coming from somewhere that isn't Japan.
