      Instant Support Group Interview

      Mar 14, 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Nashville, TN
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Dynamic Edge (Nashville, TN) in Dec 2014

      Interview

I submitted an initial email and resume through their webpage. Received a call from someone in HR who asked a couple of quick basic networking questions. Afterwards she scheduled a phone interview with Bruce. Did the phone interview with Bruce - it was essentially a networking technical interview. Lots of questions about Windows Server domains and zones. A little bit about popular commands in terminal. Bruce then also sent me an email assignment - basically just seeing how I communicate instructions via email. Next interview after that was with Tim, to check my fit with the company. No technical questions in this interview, but lots of questions revolving around how you would fit in with their company core values. Made it to the final interview, again with Bruce, this time in person, and much more in depth on technical knowledge. Felt a lot like he was asking questions for the Windows Server Expert position and only a little emphasis on IT Helpdesk and Windows knowledge. Having worked in IT support for 14 years now, with great references from all my past employers, I was a little surprised by the level of knowledge that Bruce was asking for in both of his interviews. If I had applied to be the server expert or was looking for a position in network administration, then it seemed totally appropriate but this was for their tier 1 support. Also in the interview, I asked how their turnover rate looked, and was told that "Well you know how IT works, we've got a pretty high turn-over rate, just like most places." That sent up a big red flag; my past employers have had very low turn-over with people who love where they work and only typically leave the helpdesk when promoted within the company. Finally they never bothered to call me back or email me to let me know that I didn't get the job. Just never heard from them again.

I applied online. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at Dynamic Edge (Ann Arbor, MI) in Apr 2019

      Interview

The interview process is extremely long and communications during this process can be very disorganized. Once you apply through the company website if you are chosen you will receive an email to set up a 15 minute screening call. Very basic questions are asked an what you are looking for and some technical questions. If you make it through that, you will be scheduled for technical phone interview. This interview may take 30-45 minutes and will ask questions to figure out your knowledge on various IT related troubleshooting topics. After the phone interview it can take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks before you are contacted and scheduled for another interview, (for me I was contacted after 3 weeks and then the interview wasn't for another 2 weeks, as they said this was the earliest they could do the interview). The next step is an in person "fit" interview to see if you fit in with the culture. This can take up to an hour and asks many scenario questions to judge how you would piece together with the company culture. Then after another few weeks you will go for your final interview, where you will perform hands on troubleshooting problems mostly via the command prompt. After that you may receive an offer. I strongly recommend interviewing for other jobs while interviewing for this company as this company's process is so long, (6-8 weeks) it can be a massive waste of time if you are not offered the position. Email communications are not great either. During the interviews they always promise to let you know if you make it to the next step in a few days to a week, but it is usually 2 weeks and sometimes even longer. If at any point you are no longer considered for the role, you will not be informed of this decision, they will simply no longer contact you, even if you are one of the final candidates after the last interview. This can be frustrating as you will usually go 2+ weeks without contact while you wait for them to make a decision, you could be sitting in the dark for awhile. It is a huge lack of courtesy from the company to not follow up with candidates who stick around for almost 2 months. I hope in the future, if the interview process continues to be as drawn out, candidates are treated with much more respect.

      Interview

The interview process seemed lengthy and in depth but maybe this is needed from not picking the right people in past. Looking for loyal people with strong networking skills for ISG. There is other job types offered there like website design and programming but that was not interview was for. Trying to get a Google-esque type atmosphere but it does not feel like a very professional place in many aspects during the interview process.
