      Technical Support Engineer Interview

      Nov 13, 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Domo in Nov 2015

      Interview

Applied online at their website. Got a call from recruiter the next day. He sent me an email like for a HireVue which was 12 questions about basic SQL queries and 2 video interview questions. Q1 "tell us about a time you missed an expected completion date and what did you do in the future to avoid another occurence". I don't remember the 2nd question. After HireVue I was called a couple of days later to do an onsite interview. Told to plan for 2 hours, it took longer, so give yourself lots of extra time. Met with 2 Engineers who told me about the job and asked me to unusual questions to challenge me. Met 2 Managers and played 20 questions. I met with their boss who asked me typical interview questions and about my longer term goals. Note: 2 of the managers were from EMC. Also the department did not have a "Supervisor or Team Lead". This leads me to believe that they lacked some structure. I was told several times about the environment being "wild wild west". They did have a knowledge management system. They did not have a formal training program and was told about their plans to create one. Biggest surprise was that the position was Salary. That seems less competive with the industry but maybe the overall fun environment compensates for that (free food and snack, lunch and dinner). Was surprised when I was not made an offer but maybe I wasn't right for the job or salary expectations were to high. Recruiter was professional and the decline notice came the day following my onsite interview.

      Interview questions [4]

      Question 1

If you have 3 light switches in 1 room and 3 lights bulbs that they control in another which you cannot see. How would you determine which switch controls which light bulbs.

      Question 2

You have 3000 bananas and a camel to transport them 1000 at a time. The destination is 1000 miles away and when travel with a load the camel has to eat 1 banana for every mile it travels.
      1 Answer

      Question 3

We played 20 questions. The key seemed to be to narrow down the item on a persons desk by asking about its location, then any other refining questions.
      1 Answer

      Question 4

SQL question about explaining the differenc between an UNION and a JOIN.
