I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Docusign (Seattle, WA) in Apr 2020
Interview
- 1 Phone Interview - Went over a coding question
- 4 Onsite (Zoom) interviews - 3 coding and 1 Design + Coding
All the coding rounds were good and some of the interviewers asked a second question as we wrapped up the first one sooner. And the interviewers who had to ask a second question didn't seem prepared for it.
I have to say that I did not enjoy the design round with the Engineering Director for the following reasons:
- The constraints imposed seemed unnecessary and artificial (atypical to how you would design such systems) especially considering the interview being remote and design conversations gets tricky.
- Was expected to produce code. This is atypical considering the level I am being interviewed for and all the other 3 interviews were just focused on coding.
- Almost no questions about my experience.
- The conversation was just one way. I interview a lot of candidates myself, and I do expect the candidates to lead design conversations, however, I would interrupt the conversation if I felt that its going the wrong way or if the candidate wasn't covering the topics I would want or if I would want to get into the details of a topic. None of that happened here. And this should be the round I didn't do well.
Considering the interviews being team specific, I would have declined the offer had I received one.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
- Expect to write a lot of code throughout
- All the interviewers asked for different test cases to cover
We are very sorry to hear of your experience. If you are open to it, our VP of Recruiting, Nic Jagoe, would be interested in hearing more. She can be reached at Nic.Jagoe@docusign.com.
Other Lead Software Engineer interview reviews for Docusign
I applied online. I interviewed at Docusign (San Francisco, CA) in Jan 2025
Interview
I never posted an interview experience before but as I continue to search for my next job I started to feel that I should also contribute because I have benefitted from Glassdoor reviews as well. So here it is, I just had my technical phone screen at DocuSign. It was not a good experience at all. The problem was related to string manipulation, not a typical leetcode problem but not hard as well. I asked clarifying question as what the parameters are. Before even starting the solution interviewer asked to think bigger where it can be used. Totally understandable, So i gave him examples maybe not the ones he was looking for. After that he started to talk in a degrading way, like you don't know this and you are applying for a lead role. Then he asked what the specs of the function will look like, again totally valid question. I told him the specs but he kept talking that I am not understanding and why have I applied for lead role. After sometime, he told the same specs as what I mentioned earlier. Maybe I was not able to communicate to him better but that still doesn't give him the right to bring down my confidence. Aren't interviewers suppose to work with you. I have been on the other side of the table as well multiple times, never in my mind I thought to show the interviewee that I am superior to them which I felt that the interviewer was trying to do in my case. Anyway, After that I politely told him that I don't think the interview is going in the direction either one of us wants it to and don't wanna waste his or my time and ended the interview early.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Question about string manipulation. Cannot disclose due to NDA. Don't bother applying here.
I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Docusign (Bangalore Rural)
Interview
Weird interview experience. First recruiter call, then had the phone screen scheduled. They asked only 1 question for which I gave a working solution and even ended the interview 20 minutes early. Interviewers themselves seemed confused about the problem statement. Then got a response that feedback was not positive. Not sure if their job listings are real or fake.

Question 1
Pattern search( something similar to search for a file name in the filesystem and you get all the relevant paths)
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Docusign (Snohomish, WA) in May 2022
Interview
Consisted of 5 rounds. HR recruiter, Hiring Manager, followed by 4 technical/ system design / behavior (all over Zoom).
A few hackerrank coding questions (nothing too difficult). I had time to walk through the coding questions and had good feedback to any clarifying questions Inhad. All were very helpful and didn’t rush anything.
