      Audit Assistant Interview

      May 30, 2015

      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 12 months. I interviewed at Deloitte (San Diego, CA) in Sep 2011

      Interview

The interview process for Deloitte, and the big 4 in general is very well documented and you can find out almost anything you want to know on the company websites. The interview process for campus hires has become pretty ridiculous today, and truly begins in earnest during a student's sophomore year. During the sophomore year the students should be applying for each firms leadership conferences which will usually be a 3-5 days of activities with a firm and gives them the first chance to network with the firms professionals. After the leadership conference going into the students junior year they will begin applying for internships for the summer between junior-senior year. The internships are the most competitive recruiting for any spot at Deloitte, because the majority of interns will get full time offers and make up the new hire class once they graduate. Applying for an associate job without going through the internship process is actually an easier process than the internships because generally the firms will have offers to fill up the class with however many people they need to fill the spots not taken by interns. The hardest part of the interview process is getting to the first round interview. Unfortunately a resume can only say so much about you, and if you are great in interviews but don't have a stellar resume there is a good chance you won't make it to the interview process unless you have put the time in throughout the recruiting process to network and meet as many professionals as possible. After the resume submission the firms will generally have an office-tour or happy hour where all the candidates they are considering are invited. At these events it is extremely important to be aggressive and meet as many people as you can because all it takes is one person to like you and recommend you to the recruiter and you have a much better shot at getting the interview. After the office tours, is the first round interview. The first round interview is generally held on campus. When you arrive there will be a greeter from the firm who you will have to chat with while you wait for your interviewer (this is already the beginning of the interview so don't take it to casually). Then you will have one interview with one person that will generally be a manager/senior manger and will take about 30-45 minutes. The interview is with Audit managers/senior managers not HR people that do interviews all the time so a lot of times the interviewer will just read off a script of prepared behavioral questions that the firm provides. Most of these questions can be found on the firms website and most schools do a great job of preparing students for these questions. However, a good interview is one that gets the interviewer off of reading from these questions and just talking about the job and life. The more you can get the interviewer to actually talk about what happens on a normal day at a client, why they chose Deloitte, why they have continued to stay at Deloitte and not left for industry, or life outside Deloitte, the better chance you have of getting called back for 2nd interview. The 2nd round interviews are at the local office your applying at and will consist of 3-4 interviews with Managers, Senior Managers, and then a partner interview. These are less formal than the 1st round, and if you have made it this far you are already qualified enough for the job, and each person is really interviewing you to see if they would want to work alongside you. At this point I recommend just being yourself and bring interesting points of conversation that each interviewer will remember you by. If you studied abroad use that experience, and make sure your interviewer will remember you're story!

      Interview

the interview was very conversational. entry level position is not technical at all but you should bring in experience anyways. didn’t get the position but interviewers seemed very laid back and were probably taking the interview from their phone
