The interview process initially left a very positive impression. My conversations with the recruiter and hiring manager were thoughtful, respectful, and engaging, and they reinforced my interest in the role and the organization.
Unfortunately, my experience during the panel interview was notably different. One panelist’s conduct felt unprofessional and dismissive throughout the discussion. He appeared disengaged, frequently displaying visible frustration, and repeatedly interrupted or questioned my responses in a way that felt more interrogative than conversational. At one point, it was implied that I was being untruthful in my answers, which I found particularly concerning, as my responses were accurate and consistent with my professional experience.
I am comfortable with challenging interviews and welcome thoughtful criticism; however, this experience crossed into behavior that made it difficult to focus and effectively communicate my qualifications. I invested significant time preparing for the interview, including reviewing the provided materials, and I would have appreciated a level of professionalism that reflected mutual respect for that effort.
I fully understand that not every candidate is the right fit for every role. That said, I believe candidates should be treated with professionalism and respect throughout the interview process, regardless of outcome. Interview interactions often reflect broader team culture, and this experience gave me pause regarding the working environment.
