I applied online. I interviewed at Convenience Concepts (Elgin, IL) in Dec 2025
Interview
I recently completed a lengthy interview process for a senior-level role and walked away feeling genuinely disappointed and unsettled by the experience.
While the early stages were encouraging, communication and expectations shifted noticeably as the process progressed. Compensation alignment and role clarity were not addressed transparently until very late, despite multiple discussions that indicated we were finalizing details. As a result, I invested significant time and turned down another opportunity based on an understanding that ultimately did not match the company’s final position.
During interviews, there was also an unexpected level of internal commentary shared about team dynamics and past decisions. It was especially concerning to observe behavior from senior leadership that felt inappropriate for a professional hiring environment and raised real questions about internal culture, boundaries, and leadership judgment.
Interviews are a two-way evaluation. This experience reinforced how important it is for candidates to ask direct questions early about compensation structure, reporting lines, and leadership style, and to pay attention to cultural signals along the way.
I would encourage future candidates to seek clarity early and trust their instincts if something feels off.

How will you handle your Manager being less qualified than you? You know she comes a Recruiting background?
