      Front End Developer Interview

      Application

The process took 4 days. I interviewed at ClearSky Logic (Edinburgh, Scotland) in Feb 2024

      Interview

Two stage Teams interviews. First stage with 2 Founders and a second final stage technical interview with Senior Developer. I found this person to be very nice but not very open to using the appropriate technologies but just using what he new.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at ClearSky Logic

      Interview

I sent in my application and received an invitation for an initial interview after only a couple of days. The lady who interviewed me was lovely. I was told I would hear back by Friday and I didn’t hear back until the following week, however I was invited to a second interview. During this time I would have liked more communication as I wasn’t sure where things stood and I had to follow up a couple of times. For the second interview I was given a spec for a web app with some questions we would be discussing in the interview. For me, this was the biggest point scorer for ClearSky. I find take-home coding challenges so extensively time-consuming, and live coding challenges so stressful! I thought it was a great way of assessing skill level and I really, really appreciated that. I was disappointed to see some questions on there that I feel are more back-end focused, especially as I felt some of those areas weren’t mentioned in the job posting. I know there are a lot of differing opinions on what is front and back end, but there was a lot of focus on tasks that are considered back end where I work, so I’ve simply not had the chance to build those skills. I don’t feel I really had the chance to prove that I’m good at my job because there was a lot of focus on areas that are just not part of my role. I do wish front end interviews these days focused more on the foundations of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript rather than trying to cover every aspect of React, including server side concepts. The interview was a pleasant experience. The people who interviewed me were absolutely lovely, and I left feeling good about it even though I knew it was clear I had some skill gaps. After only one business day I received a rejection with some thoughtful feedback, which I really appreciated.
