Consisted of 2-3 sessions. The first was basic 'tell us about your background' and such. Later ones were technical in video chat. The position involved Open Source and Web scraping, so technical questions revolved around walking through your previous scraping projects and discussing experience in that domain. Overall, very pleasant experience with friendly people who were clearly passionate about what they do and were willing and able to field any questions you had.

I applied online. I interviewed at Civic Eagle (Minneapolis, MN) in Jul 2022
Interview
Basic telling a bit about yourself. This was a new role so they explain about the role and the company. Then they asked if you have applied for other jobs and what positions. There is a second interview which is a written interview.

Question 1
Tell me about yourself. What strategies have you used in your previous job for customer retention
I applied online. I interviewed at Civic Eagle in Dec 2020
Interview
The interview was structured as follows:
- Initial Screening with the CTO.
- Technical Interview (technical behavioral questions, not live coding at this stage) with a senior engineer.
- Technical Project Interview and further behavioral questions with CTO and Team Lead
- Final Interview with Founder/CEO
The team are all lovely, candid, and honest about the challenges they face, the solutions they need, and what they're looking for in a candidate.
The CEO, Damola, is incredibly sharp. You can tell he is intimately involved in the day-to-day, and knows what Civic Eagle needs to do to reach the ambitious goals they have.
As an early-mid phase startup, you can tell they are looking for process guidance, which is an excellent opportunity to come in and build standards and practices. With that comes balancing technical debt and quality with a need to grow.
Salary and benefits are transparent within the company. Expect an offer typical for startups with a (at least for my area) slightly above market salary, decent healthcare offerings, and stock options. Do not expect fancy benefits or 401Ks with matching, etc.
I was overall very impressed with everyone I talked with and felt it would be a very good fit. This is a competent team excited to grow and saw compatibility in me as well, which I was humbled by. Had I not received another offer that, quite frankly, I would've never expected to deserve, I would have absolutely accepted the offer at Civic Eagle and likely been very happy. They seem like a great group.

Choose one of 4 small projects to tackle, and work on it for roughly 2 hours. Afterwards convene with other developers to demo, and Q&A.
Don't necessarily expect to finish the project, but get as far as you can and clearly show your though process, development process, and the direction you were headed.
