      Senior Consultant Interview

      May 19, 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Capco (New York, NY) in Apr 2022

      Interview

(US based - Insurance team) I was contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn. During screening, I was told by the recruiter my experience would translate to a senior consultant level. I also let her know my salary expectations, she said that was within range, I said great. 1st round with a Director (sales), very friendly and conversational and we both agreed that I would be at the senior consultant level during the interview. 2nd round with a principal consultant who asked behavior questions, why consulting, etc. Third and final with a managing principal who asked about past experience/behavioral. Everyone was friendly and I thought they were very professional and knowledgeable. It seemed like a great place to work. After the final round is where everything went south, an HR person called me and told me that everyone was impressed by me and would like to extend an offer to me if I was interested. I told her I need some time to think about it as I have multiple offers (non-consulting) that are higher than what my original salary expectation was. She was taken back and said not only were they not able to match those other offers, it would be lower than my original salary expectation. She said everyone I interviewed with wrote Consultant level, not Senior. It honestly felt like a bait and switch. She went on to talk about how each level is capped at a certain salary and not setting new employees to fail, etc. I said ok…I'll have to think about it and that comp wasn't the most important factor for me so I was still interested. We agreed she would send me a benefits package and give me the weekend to think about it. It's been 2 weeks+ and I have not heard from anyone since after 2 follow-ups and cc'ing other people in the recruitment process. I know they are ignoring me - which is fine but at least have the decency to tell me what happened after I spent hours prepping and then a verbal offer was given over phone. I've told many of my friends in consulting about it. My friends suggest AVOID and join a big 4 / Accenture and not this pathetic excuse of a "firm"

Our priority is always to produce a wonderful candidate experience and we’re disappointed to learn we didn’t meet our goal in your instance. We’re grateful for the time and preparation our candidates put forward when participating in our interview process. Please know we take deliberate measures to ensure we close the loop with all candidates and appreciate how frustrating it can feel when timely updates aren’t received. HR has already taken action to tighten up existing communication protocols. Thank you for the feedback.

      Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at Capco (London, England) in May 2026

      Interview

I applied for a permanent position. First I had a phone call with Capco recruitment followed by a virtual coding exercise, this was algorithmic based and not too obscure and finally I had an on-site behavioural interview with the MP. The staff were very friendly.
