      Account Manager Interview

      Sep 26, 2015
      Anonymous employee
      Chicago, IL
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Booking.com (Chicago, IL) in Aug 2015

      Interview

Applied online through an employee referral. I found out later that they are big on employee referrals so I definitely think this helped at least get to the first interview. I knew a couple of people who had worked and previously worked at other offices and highly recommended the company which made me much more interested. I applied on a Wednesday and that Friday received an email from the recruiter to set up a phone interview (through and automated system which I loved - much nicer than back and forth confirming times via email). Phone interview was the following Tuesday mid morning (a time I've red on glassdoor is supposed to be the best for interviewing but also worked for my schedule). Phone interview was about as good as phone interviews go - I still really dislike this method of interviewing but do understand its benefits as a first screen. The recruiter was personable and easy to talk to, pretty straight forward getting a sense of experience. I felt like we connected by the end and she told me right then that she'd like to move me forward to an in person interview later that week with the Area Manager. The interview was mostly behavioral questions, discussion on my experience and about the company, and overall very conversational. On the way out I was introduced to a few other people in the office, very brief hellos and one short conversation with the Regional Manager. I left feeling very positive about the experience and that it went well but also thinking about what I could have done better. The following Monday the recruiter reached out to schedule a second interview with the Senior Account Managers that same week. I interviewed with the two Seniors, again very conversational, I had met them during the first interview so that helped a bit as well. This interview was more granular, more specific to the position, questions about the market and what I knew about the company and industry. Again very conversational and I actually enjoyed the chat. I received the informal offer from the recruiter the following Monday and started the background check process which was completed by the Friday of that week. We set a date to start two weeks later (partially because I had a pre planned trip during one of the weeks or could have possibly started sooner). Overall everyone I met with was very professional and friendly, I liked how quickly the process moved, their efficiency made me feel like the company takes action and has clear goals. It also is so uncommon these days that I wondered if there was any reason to be concerned but overall am very happy it was not more drawn out. They were very upfront about the salary during the interview and I felt the offer was fair so I didn't try to negotiate although maybe could have but I appreciated the transparency from the beginning.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Mostly behavioral questions, still provided as many examples as possible. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? What would your previous coworkers say about you? How do you handle challenges with a client/deliver bad news? Relationship Management/Sales experience? Others on the industry and competition - always pays to do your homework, not to mention research the role to see if its something you would really want. During my research I discovered more on the company culture and found some other points that was able to bring up in the interview.

The process was lengthy and competitive. They ensure that you know what you are going into by sharing experiences. A great way to interview and set up potential employees for the future.

      Interview

The selection process started with an assessment which is supposed to give a chance to show your practical skills in this particular role. The idea is great but the assessment itself was confusing, there was not enough time to answer all the questions properly and many questions were not even that relevant to the role. If you manage to pass, you move to the interview stage which is the interview with a recruiter. I had a pretty relaxed interview with a lovely recruiter who said I left a positive impression and she will present my candidature to the next stage (which is an interview with the manager). However, at the end of the same day I received a message that they will not be moving forward with my application with no further feedback. A couple of weeks later I saw the role being reposted again.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Mostly just asking about my career path and how my past experiences could be relevant to this role.
