I believe the team is focusing more on compatibility than pure engineering talent. This is also somewhat visible from patterns on their LinkedIn team page.
Startups and small companies can be like this, with vague requirements and filters. It didn’t feel particularly difficult, more like it depends on whether they like you or not. I wouldn’t suggest taking this too seriously if you have other interviews lined up.
The interviewer joined late, and communication was also challenging. He was not a native English speaker, and I struggled to clearly understand parts of the conversation, which made the interview harder to follow.
