I applied in-person. I interviewed at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity (Cambridge, England)
Interview
I generally felt that the interview went well. I was very excited about the opportunity, so finding out that I had been unsuccessful was disappointing.
Before the interview, I was asked to complete a task that involved prioritising different tasks and events. However, I did not receive any feedback on this exercise. I had expected there would be an opportunity to discuss my reasoning and explain the choices I made, but this was not the case. When I asked for feedback, I was simply told that everything was fine, which left me confused about the purpose of the task and how it was assessed.
As a result, I was unsure why the exercise had been included in the recruitment process or what the organisation was looking to learn from it. It felt as though the task was simply a requirement to complete rather than something that would be meaningfully discussed or evaluated.
I was also disappointed not to receive any feedback following the interview itself. I had hoped to gain some insight into areas where I could improve, but instead I only received a generic email informing me that I had been unsuccessful. Constructive feedback would have made the experience more valuable, even if the outcome was not what I had hoped for.
Overall, the recruitment process was not a particularly positive experience for me. The lack of feedback and transparency left me feeling frustrated, and based on this experience, I would be reluctant to go through a similar process with the organisation again.

Had a phone call and then an e-mail to arrange an interview time. It took place on site with the voluntary services manager. They asked questions on why I wanted to volunteer for them and what I knew about the charity

Interview
Informal, friendly, informative. You are given a very warm welcome by the volunteers on the Welcome desk, which is reflective of the staff who went on to conduct the interview.
