      Software Engineer Interview

      Feb 4, 2021
      Anonymous employee
      Vancouver, BC
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Apply Digital (Vancouver, BC)

      Interview

Applied via an internal referral. Chatted with an amazing recruiter as the first tphoje screening. She just went over some very generic questions to make sure I was interested in the position. I was later invited to have an 1 hour chat with a tech lead. It didn't feel like an interview but rather a friendly conversation. They contacted me for one more round of tech interview where they did some assessment on my skill in React and some basic algorithms. Overall it was a very smooth meeting.

      Software Engineer Interview

      Anonymous interview candidate
      São Paulo, São Paulo

      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Apply Digital (São Paulo, São Paulo) in Feb 2024

      Interview

      - The first interview was with the HR, and it was very respectful, natural and smooth. She asked about me, my experiences and so on. - Then they send you a home assignment you'll have 7 days to finish and will be further discussed in the technical interview. - The second interview was the technical one, with an engineer and the manager. Unfortunately it was by far the worst techinical interview I have ever seen. 80% of the questions were about NICE TO HAVE requirements and they didn't run the application. More details about the technical interview: 1. The engineer joined the meeting late and asked for a minute as he was looking for something (notes I'd say). 2. The manager was talk-active and trying to make a good conversation. 3. The engineer found what he was apparently looking for, and started the interview where they only asked a series of questions. He asked about 25 questions about NICE TO HAVE requirements, and about 10 about other topics. 4. After the series of questions, there was a code review, where they looked the code I sent. The first files they look is a Docker file, and he checks line by line. Docker was a NICE TO HAVE requirement. Right after, they check the ESlint file, asking me why I changed a specific line. For the last part, they checked my controllers and services and say it is fine. My impressions: 1. It felt like an interrogatory as there was no conversations happening. Too many empty questions about nice to have requirements for the job position. 2. You will spend a good amount of time to fill up all the requirements for the home-assignment, which is not hard per se, but it takes time. 3. They didn't check if the application was running or if the endpoints would return what was asked for. It is disrespectful to have a candidate spend this amount of time on something, especially if you're more concerned about linter files. If you think this is more important than controllers and services, it ok, really. But please change the job requirements. 4. The engineer didn't seem like a bad person, but he was definately not trained to interview anybody. The questions were extremely mechanical and he clearly did not know the requirements of the job position I was applying for. 5. They changed the interview dates 3 times. They also changed the time/day of the interview without asking me if it would be possible. If you want to go for it, I say do it. Perhaps I wasn't lucky with the interviewers. But I am never applying again.
