      Researcher Interview

      Aug 1, 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Paris
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Apple (Paris) in Aug 2023

      Interview

My interview process started with a casual, 30-minute conversation with a research group leader, who mentioned that candidates applying for research roles skip the coding interview. Next, I gave a 45-minute presentation about my research, which was followed by a 15-minute Q&A session. Then I had several one-on-one Zoom interviews, each lasting about an hour. Two were with HR and involved general interview questions. The others were with researchers from the group, and each interviewer had a different style. One interviewer focused on rapid-fire questions about statistical modeling, another preferred an open-ended discussion about research ideas, and another asked technical questions on LLM architectures.

      Question 1

Could you explain the computational complexity associated with matrix multiplication in Transformer architectures? Specifically, discuss how complexity scales with sequence length and embedding dimension, and outline potential strategies for improving computational efficiency.
