      Business outlook

      Pros

Cushion of PTO and benefits as well as decent pay with commission.

      Cons

Greedy corporation. Does not care about employees. Especially our district manager

Good, unless you are a single parent

      Pet care specialist
      Current employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Good discount and decent pay. For retail, it's pretty good. I loved it until about a year and a half ago when an investment firm bought in and started turning it into every other corporate retail.

      Cons

The restructure means they just want bodies with open availability. I was working full time as a manager and because I don't have open availability I was demoted and lost full time. And we just had someone else have to step down for the same reason, single parent. Both of us have management experience... literally availability keeps us from even having enough managers to fill all the positions. I would have probably grown with the company but since they don't value me, it's not a company where I have any desire to dedicate myself to. I could be the poster child for the new values, but now they seem like empty words because I do not feel valued, appreciated, part of the PetSmart community. I scoff when the values are mentioned because unless you have open availability, nothing matters.

Well-known grooming option, but low pay for workers

      Dog groomer
      Current employee
      Houston, TX
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Because Petsmart is such a widely known company many people turn to grooming at Petsmart.

      Cons

The pricing is low compared to other grooming salons, so you aren't getting paid enough for your work for most dogs.

      Depends on Location

      Professional bather
      Current employee
      Valley Stream, NY
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Good pay, good benefits, decent overall

      Cons

Management sucks, allows harassment and bullying in the workplace, toxic overall

      Overly Toxic, Competitive Workplace

      Pet care specialist
      Former employee
      Gurnee, IL
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Good pay, easy access to animals (which contributes to overall enrichment), and many opportunities to connect with the general public if you are new to the area. However, you can easily find these same pros at just about any other workplace.

      Cons

Awful employee turnover rate. Many indiscrepancies in terms of pay (AKA some people in the same department working the same hours will be paid more than others). Some of the people who make up the skeleton crew are incredibly racist (due to a predominantly white workforce). Store management also doesn't do enough to protect their vulnerable employees from harm which has resulted in many people quitting in droves. If you are a person of color, you'll quickly find that most of your coworkers don't look like you. Bringing up concerns to management often leads to retaliation.
