    Pros

I enjoy helping customers and I have a passion for animals. Working at PetSmart will improve customers skills(when I used to work at Dairy Queen, I learned that there's always something to improve on) and I will learn more about interacting with animals since I want to study in that area in the future.

    Cons

I'm currently practicing driving to be able to pass my road test, which means that I don't have my license yet.

    Advice to Management

I am a hard-working person that stays on task and enjoy working with the community.

I have been working at PetSmart part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The 15% is fairly nice. There’s also certain brands of food that you can get up to 50% off. If you love dogs there’s plenty to see. Management is great at my location. You can ask the stupidest questions and someone will always try to answer you.

    Cons

The job started off great. Applied for full time but work only part time. They also hire too many people so that when hours are cut everyone is left with only a few shifts a week. Just got trained in pet care but there’s no proper training. You’re told to read a binder and then you’re thrown in to help. Way too many people don’t understand that goldfish get huge and can’t be kept in a bowl so you’re the idiot. E-mail capture has way, way too much weight put on it. They increased the daily goal when it’s near impossible to get e-mails from people that don’t want to give them in the first place. You’re pretty much left to fool them or put in a fake e-mail. Although that’s frowned upon. Constantly get flipped on by customers because they don’t agree with a product you carry. They seriously expect you, a minimum wage worker, to be able to tell upper management that this product is not satisfactory and needs to be taken off the shelves. IF YOU HATE SOMETHING SO MUCH YOU TELL THEM!

    Advice to Management

You need to do something about proper training. Watching videos over a few shifts and then reading a binder is not enough. People need to be partnered up for at least a week. Also, make an anonymous survey so that workers can give honest reviews about how they feel at work so you can care more about them.

    I worked at PetSmart full-time

    Pros

Great job if you love working with and interacting with animals and their owners.
Generally fast-paced retail, shifts go by fast.
Company works to provide flexibility for students schedules offering early morning and evening shifts conducive for a student.

    Cons

Cleaning up dog feces and urine after pet owners allow their dogs to do their business and refuse to clean it up - even though there are pet cleanup up stations throughout the store.

    Advice to Management

Better training for staff. Leaving them in a closet for hours on end to watch training videos and modules is ineffective and not very engaging.

I worked at PetSmart part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Friends you make, Customers recognize you and take interest in your life

    Cons

Everything else - you are so much better then petsmart.

    Advice to Management

Maybe instead of being money hungry, care about your staff but care about the animals! the animals are not treated like they should be, all petsmart cares about is money. Disgusting company, cant believe i stayed there for 6 years. stop expecting your part time employees to stop their lives and come in when you need them too because you couldn't schedule properly, and you cant get mad at them saying no to you calling them. If they arent scheduled they are allowed to say no. Managers should grow up and stop gossiping about each other behind the others backs.. its disgusting and leaves a bad taste on the employees. the busiest store should staff accordingly, and instead of standing around talking (that means you managers) help the associates handle customers. Its pretty sad when the customers (regulars) care more about the staff than the managers/high ups do, and for the love of humanity, stop having abusive policies that harm the animals. DISGUSTING. YOU ARE BETTER THAN PETSMART. ive had numerous customers come up to me and tell me how obvious it is that this company doesnt care about their staff or animals. that should be embarrassing to you petsmart.
