As we celebrate International Women's Day, I’m honored to reflect on my one-year anniversary with Canada Goose. Time has flown by quickly, immersed in a journey filled with invaluable lessons, unwavering passion and profound emotions. Joining Canada Goose has been an empowering experience. The brand’s promise – Live in the Open – resonates deeply with me, embodying the spirit of boundless opportunities and the chance to stretch my wings further. In this adventure, I have embraced a new culture rooted in authenticity, respect, and an insatiable curiosity about the world. Canadian culture's innate open-mindedness fosters an environment of inclusivity and warmth. One of the highlights of this journey was an unforgettable expedition to Hudson Bay in Churchill, alongside a dedicated and remarkable team from Polar Bears International, led by extraordinary women including Krista Wright. Their tireless efforts to raise awareness about the impact of climate change on the polar bears of the far North profoundly moved me. Fierce yet fragile, these magnificent creatures serve as a powerful reminder of our own vulnerability. For #IWD2024 and beyond, let’s continue to uplift and support one another, fostering a culture of empowerment and inclusivity in the community and in the workplace. Together, we can dismantle barriers and bring a positive change, paving the way for future generations of women leaders.
Since my career started (and well before that), I have been privileged to be surrounded by tremendously talented women. These women have been family, friends, colleagues, mentors, bosses, reports, clients, board members, partners, panel members, counterparts, and in many more roles. They have inspired, coached, taught, shared, eaten with, listened, given feedback to, had tough conversations, cared for, laughed with, and been there during challenging and good times in both professional and personal circumstances. You often set the bar for the rest of us, and we are better for it. While it is important to stop and recognize all women on International Women’s Day, it is my sincere hope that those closest to me know and feel they have my support during the other 364 days of the year. I also know that sometimes I don’t meet my own standard here and that there are some words and behaviours that might be preventing these incredibly talented people from feeling comfortable or being themselves. My commitment is to listen, learn, and act to ensure that everyone can contribute to their fullest potential. And so, on #IWD2024, I celebrate all those women in my life and career. We are all deeply grateful for what you bring every day. #InspireInclusion
Today is International Women’s Day. I have always considered diversity of perspective to be a huge advantage but as the proud father of a daughter, my interest in ensuring equal opportunity for women in all facets of life has become even more important to me. Benefiting from diverse perspectives has guided me both personally and professionally. I’ve seen the benefits of it in action and have made it a cornerstone of my leadership – especially being in the Legal arena, where women are underrepresented at senior levels. The systemic barriers that exist within the profession can dissuade women from pursuing long term careers in law. I am dedicated to breaking down those obstacles. At Canada Goose, my Legal team is majority women. Their strategic thinking, vision and counsel have been invaluable to me and the entire company and for that I am proud! #CGLeadershipTeam #InspireInclusion #IWD2024
Today is International Women's Day, a day to celebrate the contributions and achievements of women and shed a light on the work that still needs to be done to foster inclusivity. I have always believed in the importance of having different perspectives in the room. Throughout my career, many of my closest confidantes, colleagues and advisors have been women. I am thankful for their insight, counsel and leadership – and I know that I am better for it. I’m proud of the fact that Canada Goose is a leader in fostering a more inclusive workplace – one that values and amplifies the voices of women. I invite you to join me and the #CGLeadershipTeam today and always as we #InspireInclusion. #IWD2024
This year’s International Women’s Day theme of #InspireInclusion is important to me because, simply put, we are better together. Everyone has valuable and important insight to contribute. Here are some actionable ways I’ve felt inspired throughout my career – and as a result, how I lead and encourage others to, as well: 1. Embed it in your everyday. You can’t think of this as a big bang – one occasion and then radical change. It's important to purposely seek out opportunities for inclusion, often and regularly. Invite folks to lead meetings, get involved in projects, and sit at the table. 2. I say this often (my colleagues Canada Goose can attest to this!) but it's important to say it again: Lead with humanity. 3. A great way to showcase dignity and respect is to be an active listener. Be someone that empowers others to use their voice to create more opportunities and change within their organization. 4. And within that: Authenticity reigns supreme. Create a culture that encourages women to bring their authentic selves to work – which then enables them to create, ideate and lean into their strengths. 5. Reduce the emphasis on hierarchy. Bluntly put: we all put our pants on the same way. We need to collaborate effectively to maintain a culture of success. That may not always lead to consensus, but it does ensure everyone is heard. Happy IWD to all!
Imagine joining a business which is 90% female – from the bottom to the top – after a lifetime of working in male dominated businesses. That was my experience 15years ago when I joined Jimmy Choo. It was so liberating. Our discussions were that much richer and our decisions so much stronger. Led by our mission to empower and inspire women, we literally walked in our clients’ shoes and lived their lives to make sure that we empathized with their aspirations, desires and needs with the aim of exceeding them at every turn. As we celebrate International Women’s Day today, I also reflect on my (nearly 6) years at Canada Goose as a business leader. We have built teams around inclusion and gender diversity so that we truly think about the business from every angle and have all perspectives represented. A company’s success is attributed to building high performing teams. Without a doubt the more diverse the backgrounds and the more balanced the make up, the better the performance. #CGLeadershipTeam #IWD2024 #InspireInclusion
#InspireInclusion: sounds simple, but where to start? I was fortunate to start my career in a profession dominated by women, at a female-founded company (thanks Mia Pearson!), so I didn't face the same hurdles to being or feeling included, that most women do. And today, I proudly work at Canada Goose a company where inclusion is an action, not a buzzword. It’s that action that drives me to help ensure every woman has the same experience I’ve had, where they’re present, seen, heard and amplified. Over the years, I’ve seen - and benefited from - three simple actions that foster inclusivity and can dramatically change the game for women: 1. Make sure they are in the room. From who you’re sitting next to, to who’s advising you, to who’s listening and observing – nothing is as powerful as having them there. 2. Give them space to contribute. Notice who hasn’t had an opportunity to be part conversation, who hasn’t felt comfortable enough to speak up or who has been talked over, and be deliberate about seeking their input and perspective. 3. Be their voice in the room. Reference them by name, mention the great discussion you just had with them, profile their ideas. Simple, but powerful actions that we all can take today #InspireInclusion Here’s to all the powerful and inspiring women I’m surrounded by this #InternationalWomensDay!
As a woman in technology leadership, navigating the intricacies of a traditionally male-dominated industry, International Women's Day holds a profound meaning for me. Today is a day when we celebrate the achievements, resilience, and contributions of women worldwide. Reflecting on my journey, I’ve had many encounters that have fueled my determination to reshape the narrative. From breaking glass ceilings to challenging stereotypes, every hurdle has been an opportunity for growth. I have always believed in leading with authenticity and celebrating the way women naturally lead. Mentorship has been a cornerstone of my approach. Guiding and empowering aspiring women in technology is not just a responsibility; it’s a privilege. Through mentorship, I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative power of supporting and uplifting others. It’s about more than sharing knowledge—it’s about igniting passion and nurturing potential. I extend deep gratitude to those who have supported me on this journey—the mentors, allies, and colleagues who have stood by me. Their encouragement and belief in my capabilities (and occasionally, the lack there of!) have fueled my determination. And now, as a woman leader, I’m proud to lead a team at Canada Goose that exemplifies the strength of diverse perspectives. Our collective experiences enrich our problem-solving, spark innovation, and propel us forward. Together, we can create a world where every woman’s voice is heard, valued, and amplified.
This International Women's Day I can’t help but reflect on how privileged I am to be surrounded by such brilliant and tenacious women in my new role at Canada Goose. Women are our customers, they are our craftspeople, they are our ambassadors, they are our leaders. I learn from Carrie Baker every day as I watch her manage flawlessly the diversity and complexity of our scale, global, multichannel business. Jessica (Jess) Johannson is an inclusive, empathetic, and no-nonsense leader who makes each member of our leadership team and our organization better. Juliette Streichenberger inspires us all by charting the course for continued strength for Canada Goose in Europe, the home of luxury, Ana Mihaljevic brings boundless energy to our growth in both our critically important North American region and our rapidly growing retail footprint, and Marjan Anwar Khan is the intrepid captain driving very exciting technology enablement of our business. I have been inspired seeing the hundreds of women that hand craft our products every day in our manufacturing facilities across Canada, some of whom have been with us for 30+ years! Our female store leaders and brand ambassadors deliver warmth and expertise to our customers every day. And our women employees around the world continue to set the bar day after day. Their passion, entrepreneurial spirt and commitment to this company are inspiring. I am honored to be on this journey with you all. #IWD2024 #InspireInclusion #CGLeadershipTeam
This year’s International Women’s Day theme is Inspire Inclusion. What does that mean to me? It means leading by example, embodying the values that have guided me throughout my own career. I find it hard to talk about myself and have sometimes felt like an outsider… but I've been fortunate enough to work with people that have empowered me to overcome these barriers. They’ve inspired me, cheered for me, and created a strong sense of belonging. For me, personal connections in the workplace have always been important. I believe that understanding your people and what motivates them is what creates a supportive and inclusive environment. Its something I instill within my team Canada Goose everyday. When I’ve opened up – and spoken up! – I have thrived. But only because I’ve felt valued enough to be my true authentic self. That’s when I’ve seen magic happen. #IWD2024 #InspireInclusion #CGLeadershipTeam
